We've been going to this restaurant for probably years now, and have to say it's one of our favourite Vietnamese restaurants in town. Service in the "early years" was slow, but that's improved drastically, so no complaints there. Yes, the decor is dated, but we're not there for the scenery, we're there for the food...
And the food is GOOD. If you stick to the usuals, you're not going to go wrong, but come on, let's explore some different things on the menu. This is where Ngoc Van shines. Examples include the Spicy Vietnamese Fish Soup - tons of fish, spinach and flavourful soup; Roast Duck and Rice - generous helping of duck, veggies, and your choice of white or fried rice; Cantonese Fried Noodles - lots of seafood and veggies, no skimping on the ingredients here... the list goes on. Where other places give you tons of noodles/rice and a smattering of vegetables and meat, Ngoc Van always gives good value for money.
A good testament to their quality is the clientele - always more that 3/4's of Asian persuasion - this is our yardstick for Chinese/Vietnamese restaurants!
