The Government house Historical Society offers a Victorian Tea the first Sunday of the month from March to December. Friends and I went to the May tea and had a fantastic time.
Government House is a fun spot to start with but the Victorian tea is an extra excuse to go. We went for the 2:30 seating but did not find there was enough time to tour the building afterward so would suggest the 1pm seating instead. Reservations are required for the tea.
You have your choice of 3 options for the tea. - 1) sandwiches, scones and dessert 2) Scones and dessert 3) dessert and of course all come with a lovely tea blend. Highest price was 9$.
The Tea takes place in a ballroom with a beautiful chandelier. Servers are dressed in era costumes and there are even guests in dresses and fascinators (although not necessary).
The garden was not in bloom yet so I hope to go back in the summer to finish exploring both the house and the Edwardian gardens.
The tea has a cost but the building and grounds are open to the public for free.
