“Legendary RCMP”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 9, 2014

“Mounties” is the abbreviated common name for member of the prestigious Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Each candidate must train at this impressive complex in Regina, Saskatchewan. There are three main divisions: the Heritage Centre (museum), Academy (Depo Division), and residences, off limits to visitors. The RCMP Heritage Centre is at the training facility (Depo) and helps guests learn about RCMP, from inception to the present. As a book reviewer and crime thriller writer, I found how an officer conducts investigations fascinating, sort of a forensics study crash course. The “museum” aspect holds much more than crime investigation information, which is also an interactive display young people will find fascinating. There are old cars and artifacts from distant history. The RCMP Chapel is the oldest building in Regina, constructed in 1883, and has an all-original wood interior. Surprisingly, there are photos of Queen Elizabeth II throughout the Academy. (QE2 is Canada’s Head of State, but has no official capacity.) The dramatic and decorative crimson uniforms with jodhpurs, for easy dismounting a horse, are now only ceremonial but were standard issue in the 1800s. “Red Serge” is a colloquialism for the distinctive uniform worn by officers, called constables. These law enforcement constables are paramedics, SWAT, West Point cadets, FBI, and CIA rolled into one. They’re Canada’s crème de la crème of law enforcement and deserve the respect due those who strive to be the best. The first female cadet was inducted in 1974. Streets at Depo are named for constables killed in the line of duty. (Trivia: Throughout Saskatchewan and the Plains States there are references to buffalo. Researching the difference between bison and buffalo, I discovered that settlers mistook the furry beasts as water buffalo, found mostly in Asian wetlands. According to Wiki, bison inhabit the northwestern States and Saskatchewan.)

Thank you for your very informative history of the RCMP. I hope someday you can visit us again and take a Guided Driving Tour of Depot Division.

“Nice displays and neat history shown of the RCMP”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 29, 2014

Cost was minimal and got to see a short movie about the various units in the RCMP. Then you can take your time and look and read the historic displays from various time periods in the RCMP. They also have interactive displays which are great for the all. Overall a great experience.

“RCMP Heritage Centre”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 4, 2014

The Heritage Centre is an excellent spot to see the various stages of growth of the RCMP. The museum part is excellent with many items that have been maintained through the ages. The hospitality center that is attached is excellent for almost any type of function. Everyone should visit this piece of Canadiana.

“Mountie Museum”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2014

The museum showcases so much of our Canadian heritage. A beautiful facility with spacious, interactive, informative exhibits showcasing the beginnings to present day of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
Something for all ages! Interesting for kids to play their way through the stations, watching, learning, trying their hand at investigation techniques, and dressing up in Mountie costumes along the way. Grown up kids can take a little or a lot of time working their way through the history of the RCMP taking them from the days of the March West, to modern day investigations and training at the academy.

“Very good few hours!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 31, 2014

Mounties...everyone knows that image. The mounties, more properly known as the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, all go through training in Regina, Saskatchewan. At the training facility is the RCMP Heritage Centre, which gives guests the opportunity to learn all about the RCMP from its beginnings to its present day incarnation. Exhibits vary from how the RCMPs monitor the northern boundaries of the country, to how an officer would conduct an investigation into a crime.

In addition, on certain days, you can head to the training grounds and see the cadets learning in action. One great opportunity we had was to see the cadets put on a parade/show on the grounds, which happened mid-day and is something we'd highly recommend timing your trip to see. Ask at the ticket desk for the goings on for the day.
