Tadoussac is Canada's oldest village and is the spot to go if you enjoy whale watching. We went in late September and had a great time seeing lots of whales. However, we heard that you can see even more whales if you go a little earlier in the season. We stayed at the Motel Le Beluga. Accomodations were basic, and very clean, breakfast was included. The front desk staff was terrific and very helpful. They even took the time to help us translate some words into english. If you plan on going to Tadoussac you should be prepared to speak at least a little French to help with reading menus.
The restaurants we went to were fabulous, although can be a little pricey. Everything is in walking distance and the village is very cute. We went to Cafe Boheme, which was an artsy, casual place with good food. Try the stuffed waffles!!! We also ate at La Galouine... delicious! The restaurant La Bolee was our favorite. We tried to go one night and didn't have reservations, so we made reservations for the following night. We were so glad we did. The hostess/sommelier remembered us and saved us the best seat in the house, right in front of the fire place. She was great, recommended an excellent wine, and really provided us with one of the best dining experiences we have ever had. Our final night in Tadoussac we ate at the restaurant in the Le Beluga. It was not a fancy place, but good food and not as pricey as other alternatives. Great for a casual night. We tried to go to Le Reve Doux, Belgian restaurant/chocolaterie in Les Escoumins (about 20 mins from Tadoussac) for dinner after reading a good review on Tripadvisor. Unfortunately they were not serving dinner that night, but invited us in for some delicious hot chocolate.
We whale watched on a zodiac with AML and saw lots of fin and minke whales. There were other companies with slightly smaller zodiacs, such as Essipit, which you may want to consider, although the experience on AML was a lot of fun. Dress warm if you plan on taking a zodiac...even on a warm day!!! The water temperature is cold and you will get wet!!! We also went sea kayaking with "Ferme 5 Etoiles." It was an amazing experience and we highly recommend kayaking in the fjord with Ferme 5 Etoiles. It was a surreal experience and a minke whale surfaced not far from us, as well as some seals. We hiked to the beluga whale lookout at Baie St. Marguerite, unfortunately no whales that day :( We also went to Cap De Bon Desir.... you can sit on the rocks and watch the whales come close. There is also a shelter with a naturalist to answer all of your whale questions. CIMM is located in Tadoussac on the water. It was very informative and a must see!
All in all Tadoussac was a very fun trip with lots of outdoor activities. Make sure you bring you binoculars, hiking boots, and your French phrase book (if you don't already speak) and you will have a great time!
