After unsuccessfully trying to find a decent French restaurant open on Monday night in Sherbrooke I ended up at Da Toni's. Very elegant atmosphere in the dining room area and the glass walled wine cellar in the centre is a nice touch as well. As this was a slow night I was promptly waited upon by the only waiter working this evening. I ordered a glass of Perrier as they do not offer smaller bottles and was brought a very flat sparkling water in a Perrier glass. This came with a bread basket with some fairly good sliced baguette and cold and hard butter. After perusing both the dinner menu and the wine list I settled on the lobster bisque and magret de canard along with a glass of wine recommended by the waiter. I was a little shocked when after 15 minutes or so I received my main course as I the lobster bisque was never served to me. The waiter apologized for this and mentioned that he simply didn’t hear me when I ordered. The course itself was quite delicious, the magret the canard slices accompanied by an exquisite risotto and a turnip puree. I ordered crème brulé for desert which had a hint of orange. Unfortunately, that satisfying 'cracking' of the top layer was absent as this sad crème brulé seems to have been simply re-heated and unevenly at that. The crème brulé however came at no charge on account of the lobster bisque mix-up.
