Our first morning in Quebec City found my wife and I, as usual on such trips, looking for a new place to have a good breakfast. We were taking our time, enjoying our March break, so it was already 11:00 when we walked into "Cafe Le Hobbit" - I was dubious (was it a theme restaurant?), but hungry, so we made sure to ask if breakfast was still being served before settling in. We were very pleasantly greeted by an affable waiter who assured us we were just in time for breakfast service, and led us to a perfect table for two in a room that combined the charm of Old Quebec with a modern flair: the dark stone wall was accented by large white modern lamp fixtures, uncluttered small tables and all complemented by jazzy, bohemian music at just the right volume. We were immediately offered a cafe latte which is included in the breakfast - and it was clear the Cafe Hobbit staff know how to make good coffee! Service was attentive, helpful but not fussy: my wife's classic omelette was perfect, and my scrambled eggs came with sausage, ham AND bacon - but in a portion that was just enough. Just as we were finishing, the restaurant started filling up with diners for lunch and it was clear to us why there had been so many "reserved" signs on the tables - Cafe Hobbit is a gem (just like the ring in the fable), and definitely the place to stop at on a journey!
