“Visit of Quebec city”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 5, 2013

Being next to the highway at first we thought it would be noisy. But we got a room on the other side and passed quite a nice sejour. Also, the free shuttle to downtown was very convenient. Staff of the hotel was really helpful. Very good place to go!

As it was our fist time in Quebec city, we did not know anything about the city. First we found the location slightly annoying as it in between 2 busy roads.
Once at the reception, we enjoyed the natural and polite attitude of the Canadian : very helpful staff, very professional and always ready to help.
Rooms are just big enough for a family of 4 and are very quiet.
Breakfast is just fine but with limited choice
In their web site, they show a swimming pool : in fact the pool is very small and not too space around to rest.
A nice hotel for families and for a few days but avoid the swimming pool.

Room Tip: Try to have a room on the top : it is certainly quieter

We stayed three nights on a family holiday. I doubt we could have picked a better spot. It's location a bit out of the downtown area is a good choice for those with a car, as the old town area is only a 15 minute drive, and you saves heaps by staying out of the old town area. That said, aside from three service stations and a Tim Hortons, you'll need to get in a car to get something to eat or get to shops.

The suite itself was immaculately clean, very modern and well appointed. The decor (pictures of Quebec City) also made it feel like a luxury style room. The only thing to note is that while it is a suite, the sitting/lounge/kitchen areas are not divided from the bedroom area, so don't expect to be able to sleep people (eg children) separately if you want to stay up. The windows in our suite also opened up onto the indoor pool area. You'd think they just cover the windows, but we had to check to make sure the blinds were closed. A bit weird, but that's only one suite in the entire hotel. It was however super quiet as a result (after pool shut at 9pm).

The hotel was great for us traveling with an energetic 4 year old, as there was a small playground outside, some large grassed areas for a run, and a pool with a small water playground. The suite was spacious with a reasonable sized lounge area. The fold out sofa bed was comfortable for a child and would probably be fine for an additional adult.

Breakfast was a typical continental. The fruit and pastries were fresh and you could help yourself so it was all very good value as an inclusion. The computer in the room was a nice touch and the wifi was fast enough for Skype.

When it was time to do some laundry, I was initially confused that detergent packs weren't in the vending machines. I was then seriously impressed that it turns out the machines are free, and there's free detergent for you to use. It may not sound like a big thing, but I think the fact they aren't trying to gouge you for money says a lot about the attitude they seem to run the place with.

This hotel was surprisingly friendly to families with young children, which really impressed me. they not only have a swimming pool with a great splash pad area next to it which was excellent for kids, but there's a little play room with cars and toys right next to the pool. I've never seen a hotel with such a play room, which was quite impressive. On top of this, there was a nice play structure just outside the Hotel. It's not a very large area, but for small children even a small facility like this is entertaining enough for a few minutes to run around in before heading out to the sights of Quebec City.

The location is pretty good because it's right next to the highway, so you can pretty much go anywhere very quickly, but certainly nothing at a walking distance except for a Tim Hortons in a gas station. There are plenty of restaurants at plazas nearby to grab a bite to eat for Lunch or dinner if you're interested, but most are fast-food type, not fine-dining, which makes it even more family friendly.

The staff was certainly friendly, but I didn't have too much of an interaction with them as everything was already really quite perfect, so no such interaction was needed.

Breakfast was great, lots of pastries and options around for a very full meal. Including croissants, chocolate filled pastries, pancakes, waffles, toasted bread, fresh cheeses, etc.At the front there was always a supply of apple, orange, juice and water. As well as fresh coffee, although no milk is provided here unless it's breakfast time.

The room was really quite amazing and really provided us with great relief when we came back from a long day. Not only was there a computer at a desk, extra chairs, 2 sofas, a large refrigerator, a microwave and a coffee/tea station, but the washroom was so amazing. All was of course very clean and spotless, but the facilities were new and modern and made for a comfortable few days. Bed was very comfortable/clean as well

The only issue had was that we had an extra person in the room and requested an extra bed for them and so we paid $10. I understand that this was the cost of an extra person, but the 'bed' was pretty useless. It was a few cushions stitched together, maybe as wide as a sleeping bag. That was fine though, as we only considered it a fee for the extra person and didn't even need the extra bed as it was for a baby. Still though, for the room I got, there wasn't room for a real bed anyway! So I wouldn't consider this a complaint, just a caution for anyone needing an extra person to sleep on the extra bedding.

The pool, as I mentioned, had a nice children's area next to it. Other than that, it was a small pool with a consistent debt, I think about 1.2M all around. So it wasn't something kids could walk around in, but certainly for older children to be able to stand up in. Water could have been a bit warmer, but this is just a luxury to ask for!

I have found Quebec to be increasingly English unfriendly. Staff were able to speak an acceptable amount of English, but it would be great to have the computer in a language we could easily switch from French to English, that was frustrating! I could tell that most of their customers were French, so it's understandable. Still though, there are lots of tourists!

Loved the hotel, would recommend it to anyone with young families visiting Quebec City!

I have read lots of good comments here, so I am not going to repeat. However, I want to highlight a few nice things about this hotel. First, I was surprised that there was no carpet in the room. In most of the hotels, I always feared my kids put their bare foots on some stinky and dusty carpet and climb back to the bed. Secondly, I never thought of doing laundry during a 3 day trip. However, I needed one this time for an unexpected situation. The hotel has washer and dryer which I could use free of charge. It even provided me with free laundry powder. Lastly, I know that it has a swimming pool but I didn't know that they even has a small outdoor park and inside playing section. They may be small but they are perfect for my two kids (aged 3 1/2 and 1 1/2).

We just returned from a four night stay and had a wonderful experience at the Le Dauphin Quebec! We read reviews before booking and were not disappointed. The location next to the highway was very convenient for the short 10 minute drive to Quebec City. We easily parked for the day at both the Battle Field parking lot and Old Port Market (seven dollars and fifteen respectively) and the 10-15 minute walk to Old Quebec was not a problem. There was a free daily shuttle to the old city if you didn't mind being restricted to the times offered.

The room was really comfortable and clean and we appreciated the laminate flooring and the nice bathroom. The microwave and fridge was a definite bonus to keep drinks and snacks for after a long day of walking and touring. The only thing I would say to change would be the extreme hot temperate of the water in the bathroom; it is dangerous and could scald someone if one was not being careful.

The buffet breakfast was amazing with a large assortment of food that was very fresh (no meat though which was fine for us). We were excited each morning for our large breakfast and were not bored after four days. There were pancakes, waffles, hard boiled eggs, bagels, toast, fresh fruit, yogurt, cereal and especially the French chocolate croissants were yummy! We loved taking a coffee or other drink to go each time we went out which was a nice extra. The price for this hotel was really good, especially when you factor in the extensive breakfast.

All the staff seemed to be really trying really hard and were exceptionally attentive and friendly. We borrowed umbrellas, a cork screw, a bobby pin, were given detailed instructions to get to the nearest liquor store and they even called a movie rental place to help us find a particular movie. The hotel also has a collection of movies available for rent. We also really appreciated the free internet and computer right in our room.

I would definitely stay at this hotel again as it was convenient enough that I wouldn't pay the higher cost of staying right in Old Quebec. The parking was free at the hotel, which is usually an additional cost at the downtown hotels and we managed to use inexpensive parking once within the city. There are also nearby restaurants in the area for fast food and shopping.

We stayed 2 nights and loved our time at Le Dauphin. Staff (especially Alex) was very friendly and helpful. Alex was a great help in guiding us what places to see in Quebec City, how to get there and where to park. Rooms were very well maintained, and looked quite new and upscale. Loved the convenience of the microwave and fridge in the room. Breakfast was very good with lots of choices.
Access to Quebec City is very good. We were driving our own car and we were able to be get to Old Quebec in about 15 mins every time.
Highly recommended!
