“Great hotel, very quiet!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 weeks ago

I stayed at this hotel for two nights and it was spotless! The room was enormous, big enough for at least two other people, and was very quiet. Was in walking distance to everything we wanted to see (2-5 minute walk) without being in the middle of a crowded tourist swarm at all times. I liked that it was slightly off the path. Parking was a breeze as well and breakfast was good, too! Would definitely stay here again.

The good - the location, memory foam mattress, shower, views of the city (if you get the right room), the internet connection (though was a bit intermittent).

The not so good -
1 - it would have been good to have been made aware in advance of the significant road closures before we arrived. Trying to find the place and even return from a trip out in the car was a nightmare through one way road system and road closures. Even a standard email for all people arriving would be easy for them to send out.
2 - the road works are noisy from about 7am at the front with drills etc - so if you are at the front you won't need an alarm call - the angle grinder will sort you out a treat.
3- the room was very dusty for the first 48 hours of our 3 day stay. Eg the large table was very dirty. It was sorted as soon as we mentioned it but it should not have been like that.
4. The door lock for our room was faulty - we made the receptionist aware of this immediately when we checked in, as we could not get in the room without help. Her response was to shrug her shoulders and tell us there was a knack to it. It was not fixed during our stay.
5. Probably the most disappointing feature was the breakfast situation. The eating area is cramped and the food selection is really poor. There appeared to be a shortage of croissants - they ran out every single day (or did not have any), and given the basic nature of the rest of the breakfast (really cheap white bread etc), this was inexcusable. I don't believe the fact it is "complementary" is any excuse for this. It is obviously built into the room rate somewhere.

Overall, the location of this hotel saves it from being below par in my opinion.

Room Tip: Top floor rooms are best - otherwise not sure why you would bother with this hotel other than the lo...

We were very happy with our room at Le Champlain Hotel! It was within the upper city walls, yet close to the Parliament Building and sites in that area. The room was a little small, but fine. Updated, with a good size bathroom with tub and shower. A typical continental breakfast was included. A nice perk was the complimentary espresso and cappuccino! Staff was very pleasant and helpful. The only negative was the view of a brick wall, and the hallways were dark and musty.

We spent 2 nights in this lovely hotel in Quebec. Excellent location, room was spacious and clean. Small boutique hotel had both elevator but also easy access to stairs. Wonderful coffee and hot chocolate available at all times of the day. Would definitely return. The location was a little difficult but due to construction in area and mixed up gps.

6 of us recently returned from 4 nights in this lovely hotel. The location can't be beat, the rooms well furnished and commodious, the staff very friendly, and the breakfasts great. We would all return to this hotel in a heartbeat!

My family (including three young kids) stayed here while I was in town on business. The staff was very pleasant and helpful. Almost all positives- very nice breakfast with a few hot options (though was disappointed to see croissants only 1 of 4 mornings), relatively large room, wonderful location, and we all enjoyed the espresso machine (especially the kids who enjoyed making fancy hot chocolate). We would definitely return to this hotel!

Our first visit to Old Quebec (4 nights, August 2014) got off to a bad start because we had to spend nearly a hour finding the Champlain, and figuring out how to get to it, once we had entered the old part of the city. One long block of Rue Sainte-Anne is a pedestrian mall closed to cars, and the block on which the hotel is located was officially closed due to construction just past the hotel entrance. Both of these are situations we believe the hotel should have notified us about in advance; they were not revealed on maps, our GPS, etc.

The small hotel parking lot was full, but our car was handled by valet service for the same price, with free ins and outs available. The staff was very friendly, and mostly fluent in English. The location, on foot, was very convenient to both the old city area and an adjoining part of the modern city with many restaurants, parks, museums, etc. Our room was very pleasant and quiet; it had a view of the Château Frontenac as promised, and allowed us to watch a fireworks display one evening. The coffee and the breakfast were very good, although the lack of much fresh fruit was disappointing.

Would like to have given this hotel a higher rating, and would consider staying there again now that we know the "lay of the land". But they need to do a much better job giving directions to first-time visitors.
