“pleasant surprise”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 7, 2014

We stayed 3 nights and were very happy with the hotel and the helpful staff. The decor of our quiet room was lovely and unusual - brick wall, brass bed, vessel sink and glass vanity. Only negative was our window faced a wall. The location is in historic Old Quebec. A cappuccino machine is available for guests in the lounge. Best part was the included breakfast. Each day a different French dish was served with the other selection of breakfast foods. i.e. crepes, quiche

Our first visit to Quebec City brought us to LeChamplain Hotel in the heart of Old Quebec. The hotel is centrally located, blocks from the Frontenac, great restaurants and sights. A very easy area to walk and sight-see. This hotel was very clean, the staff extremely helpful and friendly and they had terrific breakfasts every morning. We recommend you check them out and stay as well.

we stayed for 3 nights on a TripAdvisor special. It was perfect. The hotel is a 5 minute walk from almost everything we wanted to see and do. On-site parking should be reserved beforehand, it is totally worth it not to have to worry about your car at all-just walk. The hotel is warm and cozy, yet modern and well designed. Our room, #59 was quiet, the bed has a foam topper, a little soft for me, but I prefer very firm mattresses. The breakfast was excellent, there is something for everyone, and it changes daily. The 24/7 espresso maker was a big plus. the staff were friendly and helpful. Overall, This hotel delivers a great product.

We signed up for a special offer from Travelzoo -- two nights in old city Quebec with voucher towards one dinner at a nearby restaurant. The Hotel Champlain doesn't look like much from the outside. Kind of nondescript but in a nice neighborhood and very convenient to everything in the old city.
But inside it was attractive and up to date. The staff were quite friendly and bilingual. Our room was attractive and recently redecorated. The queen bed was comfortable, the room quiet, the bathroom modern, clean and bright with modern tub/shower. Even a little refrigerator in the cabinetry if needed.
One pleasant surprise was the view towards the Chateau Frontenac from the room's window. Breakfast was included -- eggs, cereals, yogurts, bagels , cheeses, fruits and better than average coffee and teas. Parking was extra -- but available right there. Reserve the parking in advance as spaces are limited but very convenient.
The other surprise was the reservation the hotel made for us at nearby restaurant Pain Beni, a 3 minute walk down rue Saint-Anne. The cuisine was very, very good, the wine list surprisingly varied and the service attentive.
In all, I'd return Quebec and to this hotel, especially considering it is so well priced for an old-city location.

Room Tip: Rooms in the back look over a large green space towards the Chateau Frontenac. They are quiet.

Positives: Quiet street yet close to everything; love the espresso machine especially the hot water dispenser; friendly staff; generous b'fast including boiled eggs, cheese, hot cereals, etc.; clean rooms; fridge in room; modern bathrooms; has elevator; beds are comfy; AC unit new and quiet. Soft drink/snack dispenser in hotel; Microwave in common area; free wifi in room; articles for reading in common area; on one-way street that is not busy so checking in is easier as one can just park on street temporarily.

Negatives: Tight parking spaces and hard to get out of parking area, but hotel provides valet parking when necessary.

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room away from Rue Ste. Anne. Even if street is quiet, still better to avoid any so...

What a charming hotel. Recently renovated it still feels like a step back in time. It it close to some of the best food I have eaten for some time. The staff were friendly and helpful. There is on site parking and you can walk to most everything. Very quiet rooms.

Husband and I spent 2 nights in this lovely little gem of a hotel. The room was very large with 2 queen beds and a little fireplace. The bed was very comfortable with an extra foam topper and it was quiet. The decor was kind of bijou with a black goldfish inlaid glass bowl sink in the bathroom, a waterfall faucet and modern colours. We found that this quaint little place had everything we needed. Loved the coffee machine in the lobby. Best hotel breakfast I have ever had... croissants, cheeses, quiche, crepes, etc. The staff was very friendly. We arrived by train and it was reasonably close to the station but uphill so I would recommend the short cab ride with luggage. The location in Old Quebec could not be beat, a short walk to anywhere you want to go in Old Quebec.
