“Perfect hotel in old Quebec City”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 16, 2013

My wife and I travel a lot and I have never had a hotel that felt so much like home. It is in a perfect location in old Quebec. The front desk staff is very friendly. They appreciated my attempts at French but also accommodated my limitations and used English when I needed it. The free Cappuccino/hot chocolate/Mocha machine in the lobby was icing on the cake. The free morning breakfast was amazing with home made preserves and great food. The room was very comfortable and the mix of old fashion appearance yet new furniture was perfect. I felt very comfortable walking the streets and you are very close to most of the attractions in old Quebec. The parking was a little small and they hold on to your keys, but I emailed them prior to my arrival and they made sure I had a spot even when I booked through hotwire. We will definitely be back but next time we want to stay for at least a week since the two days before a cruise was just not enough time. I recommend this hotel without reservations it feels like home. Dr Gene DuQuette

Room Tip: We were in a standard room and it was perfect

First, this hotel is easily reached from the St Louis Gate, then parking is available on site right out the back door. Isabelle and her staff quickly checked us in and were helpful with directions, recommendations, and reserving a tour, which picked us up at the front door. We had a king, 5th floor room (actually the 6th) with a good view north. The hotel is not on a main street, so the location is quiet. Breakfast is a sampling of traditional Quebec items, crepes, meat pies, apple dishes and baked beans among the many offerings. And then there's that espresso machine - five different choices plus the best cup of hot chocolate we ever had. We are fortunate that for our first visit in 30 years, we found the Le Champlain Hotel.

We stayed here during the 2013 winter carnaval - it is located very close (few blocks) to the main entrance of the carnaval. Rooms are very clean and the hotel staff is very kind. We actually bought a soap dispensor to remember the place. Location is ideal for old city (upper section) and plenty of food near by. We had a great stay and look forward to returning for the 2014 winter carnaval. We booked the room already. Our SUV was a bit to big for the parking garage. (no big deal they figured out other arrangements - we parked on the sidewalk next to the hotel lol)

Great hotel - kind staff - easy access -

A pleasant comfortable and quiet room with dramatic views, and the hotel's excellent situation in town made this a great place to stay. We were a little surprised that there was no help offered with our bags when we arrived, but the desk staff were friendly and helpful. The public areas of the hotel are small, but excellent coffee and tea in the lobby was a boon. Breakfast was on the heavy side. We would use it again.

Room Tip: We were on the 5th floor and it was quiet.

Le Champlain Hotel is a perfect base for exploring Quebec City. Pretty much everything you'd want to see in the city is within easy walking distance: the hotel itself is in the Haute-Ville (upper) section of Vieux-Quebec, and just a 10 minute walk from the Basse-Ville (lower and older) section. The Plains of Abraham, Chateau Frontenac, Citadel, etc., as well as many excellent restaurants are also easy walks. The hotel staff is friendly and helpful; our room was quite large (2 queen beds, sitting area, gas fireplace & rooftop view of the Frontenac); breakfast (included in room rate) was just adequate, but enough to start the day. The espresso station in the cozy reading room off the lobby is a plus. We would stay there again.

A friend recommended Hotel Champlain and we are really pleased that they did. Typically we stay in larger properties but wanted to try a smaller hotel while in Quebec City.....and we were not dissapointed. The locaton is superb, the guestroom although not very large was clean, the bed comfortable and the breakfast ample for a continental. We would definitetly stay there again.

Close to all the tourist spots of the Old Town. Room was small but comfortable. Great espresso machine. Had better coffee than what they put out for breakfast buffet. Breakfast food was adequate, but a bit monotonous after three days.
