The Auberge Place d’Armes is the charming place to stay in Quebec.
It is ideally situated on a pedestrian street (no cars allowed). Just a few steps away, have a glass of wine at an outdoor café, people-watch at the nearby park & fountain, chat with painters on rue du Trésor or admire the Chateau Frontenac from the stairs of you hotel or simply visit the main tourist attractions of the old city, all nearby.
When first arriving, park at Place d’Armes, do your check-in and then put the car away for as long as you stay in Québec. Parking accommodation via the hotel is 12$ per day in the safe municipal parking, just around the corner.
Only 12 rooms in this little hotel, but all have exposed brick or stone walls and many of them have a fantastic view on the Frontenac. My preference goes to rooms 14 or 22 (whichever is available). They are incredible The opening windows in those front rooms are large and allow light to stream through and flood the room. They are very large with a sitting area, a desk for writing post-cards and a little fridge to chill your wine. In room 22, I lingered in the bath, sipping a glass of wine, with a full view on the Chateau Frontenac. Room 14 is elegantly furnished in Art Deco. All beds are very comfy with down comforter.
A great set-up for “the best” located hotel in my opinion, with rates cheaper than a Hilton or Best Western. It is non-smoking hotel and it offers the amenities of a “big hotel” : cable TV, alarm radio, room service, laundry, air dryer, free high speed internet, the rare choice between a/c or opening the window,...
The staff is always eager to helps us. At arrival they helped us with our luggage. There is no elevator, so if you cannot climb the stairs as well as you used to… ask for a room on the first or second floor.
A special – merci – to Sebastien at the front desk. Not only did he make many reservations for us but also saved us from a lot of trouble when he found a garage to repair our flat tire.
Le Pain Béni is the name of the charming and excellent restaurant of the hotel. The food is worldclass and offers an integrated cuisine featuring local products. I had there the best lamb ravioli in my life…and the chocolate tart with cherries at dessert was sinful. The continental breakfast is included in trhe price of the room . You take it in the restaurant or on the charming terrace that faces the Chateau Frontenac. At night, take all your time tasting your wine, enjoying your meal, listening to the everpresent music on this pedestrian street.
