“What a charming place”

Auberge Place D'Armes

We went over there for a romatic week end from december 1st to 3rd. We were supposed to leave on sunday but decided to spend one more night instead to explore Montreal.

The room was very nice and the bed more confortable than we can expect. Decoration is lot much better than other hotels we can find at this price. The location is just perfect : the hotel is just in front of Chateau Frontenac for ridiculous price !!!

We had two wonderful dinners at the restaurant : crab ravioli stuffed with snow crab as appetizer, delightful scallops with saffron «nage», deer cotelette with foie gras sauce, and creme brulee. As good as great french cuisine !

We recommend this wonderful place to anybody who appreciate great trip at low cost.
Stay smart !!!

“Don't expect too much”

Auberge Place D'Armes

This little hotel is located a block from the municipal parking lot, off a cobblestone walkway. It is in an old building with a great location - close to restaurants, shops and the St. Lawrence.

The room was neat and furnished as described. The owners tried to decorate it in an old-world manner. However, it was a hodgepodge of worn furnishings and was a bit of a handyman's special. One window would not close so they had to call the manager at home. He came by while we were out and sealed the gap with duct tape. Some of the lamps were missing light bulbs; drawers couldn't close; and the room had an inoffensive odour. We booked the room for three people, but it was only set up for two when we arrived.

At the time of booking, we also asked for a room with a view and agreed to pay a little extra for it. The lady who booked the room said that we would be able to see the Chateau Frontenac. To our disappointment, one window faced a wall and the other faced part of a wall and a group of large trees with full, summer foliage. There was definitely no view as was promised. They took our money for nothing in return.

Some of the staff at the hotel were very nice while a few were not very helpful. Likewise, at Le Pain Beni, most of the servers were good, but there was one who was somewhat unfriendly when taking our orders.

The food at Le Pain Beni was generally fine. We had some good dishes that were well prepared. They gave us one wrong order though, and promptly replaced it, but the replacement was not edible. We decided not to replace it again. In the morning, the continental breakfast that was served to guests consisted of some cold muffins, chewy croissants, bad coffee, and no tea. There was some watery orange juice if you arrived early enough.

Overall our experience was mixed. This B&B is in a central location, offers basic services (if you call one person at the front desk "service"), and tries to do this with charm. However, the results are amateurish and not more than a better 1-star establishment.

“A charming place to stay in Quebec city”

Auberge Place D'Armes

The Auberge Place d’Armes is the charming place to stay in Quebec.
It is ideally situated on a pedestrian street (no cars allowed). Just a few steps away, have a glass of wine at an outdoor café, people-watch at the nearby park & fountain, chat with painters on rue du Trésor or admire the Chateau Frontenac from the stairs of you hotel or simply visit the main tourist attractions of the old city, all nearby.
When first arriving, park at Place d’Armes, do your check-in and then put the car away for as long as you stay in Québec. Parking accommodation via the hotel is 12$ per day in the safe municipal parking, just around the corner.

Only 12 rooms in this little hotel, but all have exposed brick or stone walls and many of them have a fantastic view on the Frontenac. My preference goes to rooms 14 or 22 (whichever is available). They are incredible The opening windows in those front rooms are large and allow light to stream through and flood the room. They are very large with a sitting area, a desk for writing post-cards and a little fridge to chill your wine. In room 22, I lingered in the bath, sipping a glass of wine, with a full view on the Chateau Frontenac. Room 14 is elegantly furnished in Art Deco. All beds are very comfy with down comforter.
A great set-up for “the best” located hotel in my opinion, with rates cheaper than a Hilton or Best Western. It is non-smoking hotel and it offers the amenities of a “big hotel” : cable TV, alarm radio, room service, laundry, air dryer, free high speed internet, the rare choice between a/c or opening the window,...

The staff is always eager to helps us. At arrival they helped us with our luggage. There is no elevator, so if you cannot climb the stairs as well as you used to… ask for a room on the first or second floor.
A special – merci – to Sebastien at the front desk. Not only did he make many reservations for us but also saved us from a lot of trouble when he found a garage to repair our flat tire.

Le Pain Béni is the name of the charming and excellent restaurant of the hotel. The food is worldclass and offers an integrated cuisine featuring local products. I had there the best lamb ravioli in my life…and the chocolate tart with cherries at dessert was sinful. The continental breakfast is included in trhe price of the room . You take it in the restaurant or on the charming terrace that faces the Chateau Frontenac. At night, take all your time tasting your wine, enjoying your meal, listening to the everpresent music on this pedestrian street.

“The WORST hotel experience in Quebec”

Auberge Place D'Armes

Apr 10, 2006

I hardly know where to begin with this hotel stay. We arrived at the hotel and had to park a block away in the parking garage--not a problem. We were told we could not pull up in front of the hotel and would need to carry our luggage from the garage to the hotel. No elevator in the garage or the hotel. The man at the front desk was filling in for his cousin and could not give us any information regarding our room, or parking. One of the employees at another hotel explained the parking situation. Our hotel did not provide any help with our bags and we were on the third floor in a "suite".

The suite was simply a room with two beds and a couch. The windows did not open and the heat was blasting. At one point the temperature was 89 degrees. We could not cool the room down. It is sad to say we were sweating in November in Quebec. The gentleman at the front desk had to call his cousin and handed us the phone and he told us there was nothing they could do about our room. We simply suffered.

Breakfast the next morning was laughable. We paid extra for the pleasure of two tastelss and hard pastries and bad coffee. We checked out two days early and went home. I would not recommend this hotel to the most budget of travellers and certainly not to anyone looking in the $200/night range. It was awful!

“Old Quebec Charm at the Auberge Place d'Armes”

The Auberge Place d'Armes is a small hotel with the historic feel of Quebec, but with all the modern amenities. The location is perfect, an easy walk to shops, the promenade and the Citadel. It's in a busy part of Vieux Quebec, but quiet and parking was easy. Our room overlooked Place d' Armes and had a great view of the Frontenac.
The Pain Beni restaurant was wonderful-convenient, good value and delicious. The soups and ravioli were special and we could take dessert ot our room. Order breakfast the night before for fresh French pastry.
Most important, we were enchanted by the friendly, helpful, and easy going staff. We felt welcome, and that made our stay all the more delightful.
