“update on recent stay at Auberge Palace D'Armes”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2014

We just returned from Quebec, on Monday, July 21st. This was our second trip but the first time at this hotel. All I can say is that our stay was just wonderful. This is a small boutique hotel in the heart of Old Quebec. The suite we had was upscale and comfortable. We ate at the outside café a few times and each time the service and food were excellent. The staff at the hotel is very professional and friendly. You only need to request something once and it is taken care of immediately. Treat yourself and try this wonderful hotel.

We stayed at this lovely hotel for seven terrific nights. The staff are fabulous. They make you feel like you are the first guest to ever stay at their hotel. Noelle greeted us and told us everything we needed to know and happily she was there to say goodbye to us too. Anne was also fantastic with a constant smile and dinner advice on our first night. Thanks to Jean Felix for helping with our bags, and all the other staff, some of whom did not have name badges :(. I highly recommend that you ask for a room that faces the street so you can hear all the wonderful street entertainers from your room in the evening. We had a charming attic room and the only shortcoming was that we needed a little more surface space in the bathroom for toiletries. The location of the hotel is fantastic, across from Chateau Frontenac, and steps away from the boardwalk , the stairs/ Funiculaire to the lower town and surrounded by restaurants and interesting shops. I highly recommend this hotel and I want to say to all the staff that you are really great at your jobs!

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing Rue St Anne and be aware that there is no elevator.

Could not be in a better location. Staff including valet were extremely friendly. Rooms were average and definitely in need of updating. Hotel restaurant was very good. Sit on the patio, great place to people watch. At the price they charge should provide water in the room. Charged us a dollar for a bottle of water. Not the money, just the principal.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the front - we faced the back and there was no view whatsoever

Bonjour Grayaj1,
Merci for taking time to give us a feedback on your stay.

Our team works really hard, but with pleasure, to make sure our guests enjoy every seconds of their stay in Quebec city and feel <l’hospitalité québécoise>.
I agree with you our location is fantastic. it is so easy, as you mentioned, to walk all over the city and discover all the charms of Quebec city. Our location on the only pedestrian street in Upper Town is unique! Just in front of the Chateau our patio in summer is very popular to take a drink or enjoy the cuisine of our restaurant Le Pain Beni.
I am really sorry that the front desk charged you for the water, it is normally given for free but we have a new attendant and maybe she forgot it, I apologize sincerely.
Combining 1730 old walls, modern amenities, hand made designer furniture and antiques give each of our rooms their unicity and soul!
The last total renovation of the hotel was in 2010 and each year since then, the decor of some rooms change ! As we always use the feedback we receive from our guests to improve the service offered and give them a better experience in the future would it be possible for you to communicate directly with me to give me more details about the updating of the room you would suggest.

We sincerely thank you for your comments.

We stayed at this hotel for a weekend, didn't spend very much time in the Hotel as we were out most of the time but were very pleased with the service and the room. We chose the Superior Room in the Attic (Room 30) which was very nice and quiet, but as another reviewer mentioned if you can't do 3 flights of stairs you might want to stay in a room at a lower level, but the stairs were no problem for us. The free breakfast was really good next door, unfortunately we missed it on our second day as we slept in past 10:00 AM. I opted for the Valet service because the Hotel is located on a pedestrian street which is inaccessible to cars, and when when we got there it was extremely busy and there aren't many spaces around this part of Old Quebec.

*UPDATE*

I had a minor issue with the Valet service which I wrote about in a previous review of the hotel, and as soon as the management read about it in the review they contacted me immediately and completely rectified the situation. The Auberge Place D'Armes is a first class operation and I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone planning a trip to beautiful Quebec City.

Merci!

This hotel is spectacularly situated for seeing the sites of upper town and lower town. It's on a pedestrian street so with the exception of a few delivery trucks (which are not loud), there's no traffic noise at all. We had room number 1 which faces the street. Through the trees you can see Chateau Frontenac. The staff was amazingly helpful with reservations and questions of all kinds as this was our first trip to the city. Room number 1 was a large room with a king and double murphy bed. The murphy bed was as comfortable as the regular bed! The only thing I would suggest is having a mirror near the desk/front windows for a secondary area for make-up application etc... We were a little handicapped with two girls sharing the bathroom and attempting to get ready at the same time.

Room Tip: There's no elevator so keep that in mind when choosing your room. Room 1 is very spacious and up...

The hotel is just okay. Best thing is the staff are nice. Lots of steep steps to climb to get to our room.
The bathroom was a bit lacking and the toiletries are poor. We found the breakfast to really be lacking. My poached eggs were cold. Just didn't think the place was worth the high cost.

Bonjour,

I am so sorry that you did not thoroughly enjoy your stay at Auberge Place d’Armes. It is a family business and we try hard to give the best to all of our customers ! Thank you for your good words regarding our staff. They love their jobs and it shows !

The inn is made up of 2 historic buildings with different configurations. Space is rare but we have rooms going from the tiny Pied à Terre to the oversize loft, with bathrooms to match, all with modern amenities including heating floor in deluxe and suite, high speed WiFi…. As we are also on the green side our toiletries are in dispensers but from an high-end brand.
We encourage our guests to call us directly or contact us by mail, so our helpful staff can choose with you the best room for your stay at the best rate!

One of the building is from 1730 and the other one from 1850, long before elevator where invented ! But we are working with the city and Historical Monuments to figure out how it could be done and it is not simple. That is why on all websites that we control and in the description of the room we enhance the fact we don’t have a lift. That is also why we have 2 athletic persons to move the luggage up and down for our guests

I am sorry that your poached eggs where cold, and also I did a follow up with the kitchen. I wish that you had asked to change them, it would have been with pleasure since we know that breakfast is the most important meal of the day and it needs to be good. You could also, at that point, have changed your order and choose from our 10 menus that range from the continental, to eggs benedict, including oatmeal cook to the order and incredible French toast.

I hope that these little mishaps were not too inconvenient to you and that you had a great stay in our beautiful city

We loved our 3-day stay at this hotel! We opted for this over a larger commercial establishment and believe we made the right decision. We had a charming attic room with exposed brick and wood beam ceilings. Two bonuses at this hotel are the personal service at the front desk and the highly rated restaurant that is next door (our breakfast was included in our rate). One thing to note: if you do not like to climb stairs ask for a room on a lower level. We didn't mind it but had a very steep climb to our attic room.
