My wife and I traveled from our coastal Maine home to Quebec City for a three day get-a-way. Although we had visited the city often in the past we had not been there in the last 15years and were curious if much had changed in the old city since then. Except for the tourist shops in the lower port area, not much. It is still a very european city with great french based cuisine. And the Place d'Armes fit right in. Located on a walking street some 100 yards from the Chateau Frontenac the hotel has an eclectic variety of clean nicely appointed rooms and small suites. And although our room (#21) faced the street it was very quiet.
Front desk personnel were very helpful and accomodating. I suggest using the valet parking (3 dollars extra) as parking in the old city is hard to come by. The valet will also take your luggage up to your room, a nice service considering the steep and narrow stairs (there is no elevator). Kathy in the restaurant went overboard to make our meals memorable AND reasonable (try the fondue with local cheeses!). We also discovered a couple of very respectable Quebec wines through her. The breakfast is part of the room charge, lunch we took elsewhere as our walks discovered that many of the restaurants served half price meals then, but dinner at the hotel was great, especially on the outside heated terrace watching people go by and listening to the various street musicians with the cathedral bells in the background. The inside restaurant decor is modern and simple.
We were pleasantly pleased all three days.
