“Canada trip”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 21, 2013

Recently stayed at this hotel while on our vacation in Canada. First of all, the location is perfect. Just outside the gate leading to the old city. Walking distance to everything. It is on the smaller side when it comes to Marriott's, however that only made it feel more homey. The room was comfortable and clean with a great view of the old city from our sixth floor window. Breakfast in the concierge lounge was adequate and convenient. We also liked the restaurant coupons. The staff was top notch. The conciege, Nicholas and Michael were extremely helpful. Also a big thank you to Marie at the front desk and Gabriel in the lounge. Language was not a problem at all. Not even with my poor 7th grade french. Would definitely go back.

Location was wonderful but we didn't realize how convenient it was until our second day. There definitely was a language barrier with the concierge. Rooms were adequate. The concierge room was sub-par. They ran out of coffee, juices and water. They only had one attendant that was over worked. The coupons for appetizers in the main restaurant were very nice.

Arrived on a Friday afternoon when a bike race was going on through Old Quebec City, which made it a bit crazy to get to the hotel, but as soon as we drove up in front of the hotel entrance, a valet approached my wife's door and had her out and most of the luggage before I got out of the vehicle. Staff was fantastic during the entire weekend from the ladies at the front desk giving us an early check-in to the other staff who gave us directions to the attractions and restaurants when we made inquiries of them. It rained both days we stayed here and the staff on different occasions offered us the use of umbrellas, but we had brought our own. Lobby is very nice with the bar / restaurant right across from the front desk. We can't comment on the restaurant as we just had drinks at the bar. Stayed in a king suite for two days. Very large living room area with full couch, large computer work area, small sink with fridge. The bathroom included a tub with jets and a separate shower. The views were fantastic as all 5 windows of the suite faced Old Quebec City and the courtyard at the entrance of St. John's gate. Our reservation included access to the upper concierge lounge, which was great to pick up an apple, orange or beverage whenever we wanted and the breakfast each morning was satisfying. The exercise room is located in the lower level and is spacious with new equipment. No complaints at all on our stay. Best parts of the hotel for us was how close the Marriott is to Old Quebec City and the staff. Would definitely recommend this Marriott hotel to anyone.

Room Tip: If looking at a king suite, you may want to ask for the higher floors. Our suite was room 101, whic...

Hotel was nice, clean, obviously recently updated. We spent more for the corner room suite, with the kids on the sofa bed. Nicholas, the concierge, valet, everyman, I think, worked extremely hard and conscientiously to make our stay enjoyable. I hope the hotel appreciates everything he does! Location is excellent to visit the old city.

However, the cattle call they call breakfast was disturbing, demeaning, and horrible. Maybe cramming people into a "lounge" space for breakfast would work well for a business crowd, but for families visiting during summer, it was a real bummer. No tables available, so we sat on the steps eating whatever food I could scrounge together for my kids. The waitress was frantically up and down trying to refill the demand for food, but the space and food service area was ill-equipped to meet the guest's needs. We did not eat breakfast at the hotel after that. Mgt REALLY needs to rethink this set-up.

Room Tip: Corner suites are largel and sunny.

We stayed for several days in this Marriott that until recently was a Courtyard Inn. The rooms were a little small, but not unusually so for an urban area. The location was perfect for us, as it was within easy walking distance to the old section of town and to several theaters. The breakfast was good, and the food in the main dining area was excellent. The entire lobby has been upgraded, and is a very comfortable place to hang out drinking coffee, reading a newspaper, or whatever. We would definitely stay here again when in Quebec.

Great location, right next to the large parking garage where you can leave your vehicle. The hotel is adjacent to the entrance to the old town so really well placed for evening and breakfast eating. If you want a view make sure you ask for it - our room faced a vacant office block, in fact our windows were about 10ft from the block so in both of our rooms we had absolutely no view, other than AC plant! However we weren't there for the view as that was outside, but if it's important to you make sure you ask.

Helpful and friendly front desk. Internet was about £10/day so we didn't - we are Marriott members and note that Hilton HHonors gives free Internet to its members. You can use the one terminal in reception if you don't want to pay.
