Our family booked two rooms here in mid September while in Quebec City and were very happy with our rooms. My husband and I booked room !0 on the 3rd floor and my in laws booked room 2 on the first level.

Room number 10 was spacious and had nice views of the old town, Chateau Du Frontenac, as well as the St Lawrence river. The windows wrapped around 2 sides of the room offering views of the street directly in front of the hotel and them down the hill towards to river. The bed was very comfortable and the pillows and linens were of a good quality. The bathroom had a bathtub and was well laid out except one small gripe there was no place to hang a hand towel and so we hung it on the towel rack in the back of the bathroom by the toilet. The hair dryer was one of the old box unit dryers built into the wall...fine for me and my fine hair but my mother in law used one she brought due to her thick hair. The windows in Quebec are interesting and the ones in the room were definitely original. There are windows that can be opened some one pane at a time and then there are painted wood shutters that close over those. I imagine these are designed to keep the cold and wind out but we thought they were neat looking and added to the ambiance of the building. We ended up using both sets to keep out the street noise. The breakfast served was a varying selection of breads and danish each day with coffee and orange juice. We just grabbed a tray and brought it up to our room.

The location of the building was excellent and a couple of minutes to the fort up the hill. Lower town was a beautiful picturesque walk but be warned its not as much fun going back up hill! It may be worth the money to ride the funicular back up the hill as it's still a good hike uphill to the room from where it lets off. The whole old town area is a series of hills so just pace yourself and wear comfortable shoes. Great restaurants and bars are 10-15 minutes away and the Chateau Du Frontenac is even closer and easily viewed from room number 10. The location would seem like it would be quiet but there was a lot of traffic and large truck noise at different times of the day. There were some night owls walking about (probably as the weather was exceptionally nice) making noise at late hours but nothing the hotel could do about it.

Overall we would stay here again and definitely choose room 10. The stairs aren't so bad as long as you are a light packer. The wifi worked great.

Room Tip: Top floor rooms are bigger and 1st floor room are subjected to more noise but of course no stairs.

Maison Du Fort is a great spot for a short (one or two week) stay in Quebec City. Just up the hill from the Frontenac and an easy walk to Rue St. Jean, Rue St. Louis or the Citadel. Owner Marielle lives on site, keeps the place scrupulously clean and tidy and is a fount of useful information.

Looking for a cookie-cutter hotel in Quebec City? Look elsewhere. If you want a touch of the past in a wonderful location and at a reasonable price, Hotel Maison du Fort is for you as long as you can handle the flight of stairs. Their website gives a good impression of the rooms. This wonderful, historic building is owned and operated by Maribelle, a charming woman who couldn't be more helpful and pleasant. We had room 6 on the second floor. It felt like we were visiting Auntie in her old but thoroughly updated historic home. We LOVED it! We had more than enough room for two of us with two double beds, a full bath, great light from many shuttered windows, fireplace with mantle and mirror above, two wingback chairs and two occasional chairs plus delightful, period furniture throughout, even in the bathroom. This is not to mention the evidence of a love of cats that decorates the walls. The hotel is only a couple of blocks from a charming street full of restaurants and fine food plus is walking distance to the Citadel and Vieux Quebec. We never needed a cab except to get to the train station. In the morning, Maribelle puts out a selection of muffins, pound cake she bakes herself, coffee and juice. Trays are provided so you can take your meal to your room or you can join the other guests in the small breakfast room. This delighful place was the highlight of our trip to Quebec. Thanks you Maribelle. You rock!

Room Tip: Check out their website for room descriptions. We faced the front but found it very quiet.

This was our second stay at Maison du Fort and was equally a positive experience. This place is amazing. Affordable, superbly clean, centrally located, great staff, and an amazing and friendly owner. Marielle is very knowledgeable of the area and is very quick to help. My wife and I wanted to the falls and she provided us with a map along with detailed instructions. We stayed at another B&B in Montreal, thinking others were comparable to Mason du Fort but they aren't. Maison du Fort is the best!

Room Tip: Room 8 is a tad small but still awesome. We have stayed in three different rooms. If you need more s...

My first choice, excellent location, very clean, lovely breakfast. Marelle made us very welcome and full of interesting information. Fell in love with old Quebec City and this Bed and Breakfast. You will not be disappointed - very quaint.

We traveled with our three children (ages 20 months to 10 years) in August. We took two rooms on an upper floor, the beautiful #10 with four-poster bed and views of the Frontenac and river, and charming #9 next door (because the top floor double room was already booked). We were utterly comfortable and felt cared for and pampered by the lovely Marielle, who greeted us at the door at our arrival. The hotel is perfectly located to enjoy the old city and Citadel, with a quick walk through the neighboring park to visit the Frontenac (with Starbucks), the river walk, and the funicular to the lower city. The neighborhood is filled with restaurants and amenities and grants easy access to anywhere you'd like to go. Located on a side street, you're away from the hustle and bustle and noise, but steps from the excitement.

The decor is charming (lots of cat-themed art) and the hotel is scrupulously clean and well maintained. Two cats reside in the hotel, but they do not visit the guest rooms (they were very tolerant of our children saying hello). If I have any complaint it is that the bathrooms are a bit small and lack shelving to place your belongings, but it's a minor problem. Marielle is warm and knows everything and will make your stay absolutely lovely.

Room Tip: #10 is beautiful and romantic, large and charming
