“Among the Best Hotels I Have Ever Stayed In”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 14, 2010

If I could give over 5 stars I would. Auberge Saint-Antoine was perfect in every way and the staff went out of their way to make us feel special. I told them in advance it was my wife's birthday and they had a special gift waiting upon arrival. When I asked the front desk to make a reservation for dinner they told the restaurant and they surprised my wife with a slice of chocolate cake, on the house at the end of the meal. The bartender was friendly, attentive and creative with his drink making. The concierge picked a few great bars and restaurants for us. They also upgraded us upon arrival. And as for the hotel, beautiful, comfortable, creatively designed modern luxury hotel at a very reasonable price. We had breakfast at Panache, the sister restaurant next door and it was excellent. I would say without exaggeration this is among the best hotels in North America.

We stayed here for 4 nights in early October for our first trip to QC, and our first vacation with our newborn. They upgraded us to a room with a fantastic deck and stunning view of the Le Chateau Frontenac, and made sure we had enough space for our Pack & Play and an empty fridge for baby's bottles. It's in lower town, so expect to walk a ways to get to the Upper Town where most of the touristy attractions are. On Wed nights they have a cocktail reception for guests, which was lovely. The doormen and front desk staff were always very helpful with recommendations on spots to go. Overall, a beautiful inn and great place to stay.

This is the perfect hotel. I have stayed at the Germain-Dominion, and also Hotel 71, both in Lower Town, and both are wonderful. But the St. Antoine hits every note, from the friendliness and competence of the staff to the lovely bar / lounge area to the quality of the attached restaurant, Panache (definitely try it at least for breakfast or lunch). Parfait!

Our family recently had a wonderful stay at the ASA, we booked a King Suite and a Luxe King Room connecting. The rooms were excellent with more than enough space (the Luxe King is not large, but adequate with a slightly bigger washroom than our Suite, the Suite was very spacious with dining table and sitting area separate from bedroom).

This hotel has done a wonderful job of their design and amenities. It's a well decorated space and many small details can be found throughout.

We would definitely recommend this property and stay again. I have given the property 5 stars because it is a gem; however, having said that it is still a boutique hotel with limits. I prefer the hotel character and room decor to the Four Seasons chain, but this is not a service oriented hotel in the "people" kind of way - which was fine by us as it had so many other attributes.

It's pretty much you're left to your own devices unless you seek out the staff's assistance. They are kind and helpful in a perfunctory sort of way. Some seem a little stand offish but without intending to be rude. For example, two of the days we were there, a proper concierge was not working and one day we were sent off to a museum only to find out it was closed for the season (not a big deal as it was in walking distance, but something they should be aware of). Our dining options which the concierge booked were decent, one of the restaurants they recommended was cafe du monde which was disappointing, more of a mainstream type restaurant with photos of their entrees on the placemat (yikes-red flag moment). I think we could have done better in such a quaint part of Quebec. Be sure to make it clear the expectations you have and I'm sure you won't be steered wrong.

Panache was by far the best part of our stay as it was lovely in every possible way. We had dinner there and breakfast every morning. Meals were very leisurely (i.e. don't plan to get in and out in a hurry). Dinner was slow in a good way and exceptional. Breakfasts seemed a little busy on weekends and were somewhat slow again, due to not enough staff perhaps? Not a problem for us as we had no where to be, but it would have driven me crazy if I was not on vacation. Again more on the perfunctory side in terms of service for the breakfast staff, but pleasant nonetheless.

The lobby area served a limited menu of items and the two times we ate there it was good, not a huge variety (i.e. soup of the day was the same both times). Many nice spots to sit in and visit or play a board game.

Their theatre was fantastic, all in all an excellent stay and a lovely hotel!!

My husband and I stayed at the Auberge Saint Antoine with our two children, aged 6 months and 3 1/2 years. Our room, a deluxe suite was very comfortable and incredibly large for hotel standards with a separate living room, terrace, walk in double closets and substantial bathroom. The concierge was very friendly and helped direct us to restaurants that were kid friendly. The restaurant is beautiful and should not be missed. The Chateau Frontenac pales in comparison to this wonderful hotel. We are looking forward to our next stay.

I got engaged in Quebec City while staying at the Auberge Saint-Antoine and so I have particularly fond memories of the hotel. As a hotel, in practically every way but one, it was one of the finest hotel's I've every had the pleasure of staying at. The staff is extremely warm and friendly, especially if you can speak a few words in French. Everything, from the fireplaces in the lobby, to the excellent restaurant attached to the hotel, to the rooms themselves (with an extraordinary lobby space to put your shoes and clothes and the excellent bathtub in the bathroom) was nothing less than first class. And indeed, the location of the hotel, in the most laid back lower town (rather than the more hustle bustle upper town) was perfect. In many ways, it was the perfect hotel in which to get engaged.

The only complaint we had was of the bed itself - while I wouldn't say it was uncomfortable (and there may well be a lot of people who love the bed), we found that it was less comfortable than it looked and that our sleep was average. Normally, we look forward to staying in a hotel of this class for the immaculate sleeping experience, and in this respect, it did not deliver. Again, it could very well have been us, but in giving an honest review, I thought I should mention it.

That said, next time we are in Quebec City, we would probably stay here again. The overall hotel experience offered by the St. Antoine is spectacular and it really is deserving of its accolades as one of the best hotels in the world.

-If you are in Quebec City, you owe it to yourself to try this hotel. The staff is beyond compare; we arrived very late in the evening (near midnight!) and we had the loveliest reception. Each day we were greeted warmly by the staff, and the concierges were wonderful as well. It was no problem getting our car out; if you call for it, it is in front of the hotel by the time you have arrived downstairs from your room.

-The hotel decor is striking, blending modern chic with a little 'old world rusticness' and elements such as artifacts displayed in chic light-boxes in the common areas.
-Very nice area to sit and sip a drink in the lower lobby areas, near two fireplaces. The bar staff were extraordinary there as well! (try out your French, they're very accommodating and helpful, but there's no need to speak it if you don't know it--all speak English as well)
-Rooms were outfitted with very luxurious linens and a plethora of great towels. I am so glad to not have to ask for more towels for once.
-Turn-down is a nice bonus, with fresh bottled water provided every evening. A great touch for your next-day sightseeing.

-Location in Lower town is proximate to many good restaurants (including the restaurant Panache), so you can walk to a good many things, and a short staircase/hill away is upper town.
-Only odd thing/negative for us was the fluctuating water temperature in the rainhead shower. It would verge on getting cold, then warm again. Some nights were better than others. ?Old pipes? Certainly it wasn't a problem, but it was less than optimal for long showers. Soaking tubs were definitely a nice touch.
-Free internet in lobby. Another plus!

-Was able to try the spa and gym; very cool, architecturally interesting area, with a great spa staff. Gym isn't huge, but certainly up to date and adequate.( If you walk up the hill from lower to upper town and back a couple of times a day as we did, you probably don't need the gym anyway!)

Definitely recommend for those 'boutique hotel' aficionados, and those who appreciate truly great service.
