I found this recommended in several guide books and also on this website. This place is a gem, architecturally unique. Our kids loved the lobby and our room. We ate breakfast in the restaurant and it was great: good food and a beautiful setting. My wife speaks French, but the staff all seem to be bilingual and they were very friendly and helpful. I chose this over the Chateau Frontenac and am glad I did. Quebec is a beautiful city and you feel like you are in Europe. The upper town is surrounded by a city wall, unique in North America. The best part of our visit was discovering Simon's, we took the opportunity to buy Euro-styled clothes. A restaurant tip is Le Cochon Dingue, recommended by two different merchants. Save room for the Sugar pie, a Quebec speciality worth the calories.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 21, 2009

My husband and I visited Quebec City for five nights in May, 2009. After two nights at the famed Frontenac which didn't offer much other than its name we decided to seek other accommodation. On investigating the Auberge Saint-Antoine we were immediately sold when the bell/doorman took us on a tour and didn't just *show* us a room but explained everything about it along with details about the hotel (even a full sized movie theatre!).

Our room had a spacious patio with a view of the St. Lawrence River; also a porthole, fireplace, tub and shower.

There was so much to enjoy… from the heated bathroom floor, to the goose down duvet and pillows, Bose sound system, free internet, flip-down ironing board, robe & slippers and Nespresso machine. The room temperature was easy to control and our room was clean and had no funny smells. My only peeve is the standard over-priced minibar. It seems out of place at this hotel which otherwise ‘thinks outside the box.'

We loved the mix of the old with the modern. The artifacts throughout the hotel continue to the room - on the room number plate outside the door and embedded in a bedside table.

We can't say enough about the extraordinary service we received at this wonderful hotel. If anyone thinks staff might be snooty, think again. They are anything but. One day I was sitting in a wing-backed chair by the window in the Cafe Artefact (eating one of the best soups I have ever had) in the lower lobby area when a bellman hurried by. He stopped in his tracks and, thinking I looked uncomfortable in my forward leaning position, got pillows and placed them behind my back! Another bellman helped us prepare a package for mailing as if there was nothing he would rather do at that moment. That's the kind of service we got at the Auberge Saint-Antoine. Not only that, but the staff were always ready to help with our luggage, a distinct switch from the couldn't-care-less attitude at the Frontenac.

The hotel is in an incredibly interesting part of town with lots of shops and cafes, and it is not a long walk to the Funicular to get to the upper town.

There were no surprise charges when we checked out. We loved Quebec City and we loved the Auberge Saint-Antoine! I wouldn't stay anywhere else.

I stayed at this hotel with 6 girlfriends. The rooms are spacious and well-designed. The tall windows opened up completely which was a very nice touch. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. I would definitely go back!

Located in the old port (Vieux Port) area of Quebec City this hotel is fantastic.

The staff is wonderful, the design is innovative, relics from the excavation are all framed all over the hotel, there are fireplaces for warming, and couches and thows for cuddling.

This one fabulous place. Nothing frou-frou here but very elegant.

Each room has a name on a place outside the door.

Wouw. What a great hotel, location, staff and everything. We had chosen this hotel for 4 nights in Quebec based on the reviews here and a recommendation from a business partner using the same hotel when she is town.

We had room 516 which has one of the big terasses with a view up to Hotel Frontenac and a nice afternoon sun if you want to sit outside. Everything in the room is really what you seen on the website and here as well. Some of the extra nice touches are the heated bathroom floor, nespresso machine and just the space in the room.

The gym is one of the nicest hotel gyms we have ever seen with very elegant changing and shower facilities, so you do not have to meet other guest in the lobby or elevator in your work out outfit. Well done.

On top of all these nice "things" there is the staff. Wouw again. They all put that extra service in it whenever you spoke to the staff, so you just felt good.

I travel in all parts of the world for busines and THIS hotel is probably one of the best total value for money I have ever been in for leisure as well as business and it is THE hotel in US/Canada I have loved the most. We give it our very best recommendation to anyone coming to Quebec.

Ah yes, final thing: Location location location. There is easy access to all parts of the city interesting for tourists as well as a public car park where you pay with credit card next to the hotel. d
