“Everything the Chateau Frontenac is not”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 24, 2011

After having given up entirely on the Chateau Frontenac on our annual visit to Quebec City (this wonderful old hotel has unfortunately become appallingly managed under an utterly indifferent Fairmont brand) we tried the Auberge Saint-Antoine for 3 nights last week, and could not have been happier we did. In yet another historic building, which Quebec City is renowned for, a former marine warehouse with 4-foot stone walls has been made into a state of the art hotel. From design to execution absolutely nothing has been missed. Excellent rooms, staff, restaurant (breakfasts the best we have had this side of the Inn at Little Washington or Post Ranch in Big Sur), service, location, etc. When, upon checking in, we were asked what time we would like our suite attended to in the mornings and turn down done in the evenings, we knew we were in good hands, and indeed we were. This will be our new home in Quebec City.

The rooms and the hotel are gorgeous. The staff is perfect. We had a room with a little balcony, very charming. Since it was early September, no need for a fire in our fireplace, but I know it would have been perfect.
And, we brought our dog, and St.A acted like we'd done them the hugest favor by bringing Charlie. They offered to sit with him while we were at dinner (in case he barked or disturbed anyone - didn't happen, but a great offer), and they had great walk suggestions for us.
This hotel is world class, in a city of wonderful beauty and fabulous food.

With relief driving to the hotel and our car was taken from us and luggage taken inside by chatty David (from Ireland). It was all a sigh of relief. The hotel is very beautiful. Our suite was very roomy and extremely well appointed. Breakfast very good and extensive but pricey. We loved the bar , cozy, and the food is sufficient for dinner, we are not big eaters. Staff very professional. Location on the waterfront and interesting. History attached to the hotel. Overall a lovely hotel and a great pleasure to stay there

Room Tip: Use the bar

This is our second time to stay at Auberge Saint-Antoine and we were just as pleased as we were our first time. The rooms are lovely, but not overdone. Beds are fabulous and baths are definitely five star (one way I rate a hotel!) The staff is so friendly and helpful and the service is professional, but warm. We also love the bar area-very intimate. The location oozes charm. It is almost ethereal walking along the cobblestone streets amid the old buildings. There are many cafes and bistros around you and very nice shops that sell Quebecian (if this is a word) products. This is definitely a very special hotel. We could have bypassed Quebec City this trip as we have been here before, but we wanted to stay in this hotel again. The only unfortunate thing is that we could only stay one night here!

Room Tip: We loved our view of the St. Lawrence

Wonderful location, beautiful rooms, terrific staff. But it was a bit formal. A minor criticism because I'd stay again

We go to Quebec City for years and we always stay at fabulous Auberge Saint-Antoine. Of course the know us but event the first tine ans ever since what a great service. Fron the arrival in that small and narrow streer to your romme every thing is just perfect. The staf is young, polite, well dressed and the really know what the word hotel and hospitaly means.

Pefectly located, you can walk to any site in the old city. Expensive, yes but a great value too. Last time we went we had in our room a hand written welcome card from Mr. Jean-Louis Souman, The General manager ! You can not ask for more. The hotel is in fact a kind of museum because they kept and display all theses artefacts they found on the site during the construction.

We do strongly recommand Auberge Saint_antoine for those who like luxery, style and exceptionnal service.

My husband and our 2 young children stayed at this hotel for 4 nights. Being jaded world travelers and nyc-ers, it takes a heck of a lot to impress us. We cant say enough good things about this hotel.
First off is the location-this is absolutely the best, most centrally located hotel in Quebec City. It is in the heart of the old city, yet off the path just enough to be away from tourists. You are within 5 minutes walk of the river, the old town, everything. We saw every area of the city and were SO happy we stayed where we did. The most charming neighborhood to be in. Even with 2 tired, small kids we had no trouble reaching any attraction in the city from this location.

The reception, and doormen were warm, attentive, and very helpful. They were spot on with helping us in and out of the car and the bags.

We got room service breakfast every day. The food was very good, fresh, and worth the money. Our room had an espresso/coffee maker, microwave and small fridge which were all very nice, and very high quality espresso pods-a nice touch.

We were very surprised when we reached our room. We booked a "maison hunt" french 17th century style suite. This suite had a separate bedroom, bathroom, sitting room with an additional small bed for our child, dining table and terrace. We did not expect the room to be so large. Being in the NYC area, we couldn't believe that we paid what we did for this room. You really get your money's worth at this hotel, and this location.
The reception and lobby area is warm, with a lovely fire, sofas, and modern feeling lounge.
The restaurant Panache looked beautiful. We did not get to dine there though, they said it was booked. We think the restaurant just did not prefer to have children there however. Which we can understand, but that is the general feel we got, fyi for families out there.
The cherry on top had to be the style of the room. The rooms in this part of the hotel are all styled from a specific european century. It had the modern comforts and bedding that you want, but it had touches of the history of the building all over-original flooring, antiques, beams, and alcoves all over the halls of artifacts the hotel has found. The furniture was just charming. It felt like being in a dollhouse, but not 'old', dated, or antiquey feeling. Whoever styled this hotel, especially this concept of the hotel deserves an award.
They have mastered meeting sleek, modern and sophisticated;and old world charm.
Our only two complaints would be that our bed was not very comfortable. I don't know if that is just the type of bed in the 'old world' part of the hotel, or the beds in general. But my husband wasn't thrilled with that. However, all in all I'd put up with that again bc the room was so charming.
The second issue was with the bill upon checkout. When we reserved the room we included breakfast. However, upon checkout our bill included most of the breakfast charges, plus the already included breakfast charges per night. We had ordered some extra a la carte items but nowhere near what the bill was reflecting. We had to explain that our 4 yr old did not order $97 dollars worth of breakfast.
They acknowledged the mistake. It was a bit irritating bc we had to wait a very long time while they contacted the management to fix it. It delayed us a half hour, and though they were very nice about it, bc it was so obviously the hotel's mistake it shouldn't have taken that long to 'investigate'. I will add though, the woman at reception was great about fixing it-it wasn't her fault.
All in all there is no where else we'd stay at in Quebec. A true jewel of a hotel.

Room Tip: The 'maison' suites in the old side of the hotel are a jewel.
