“Great location, great service, improved accomodations”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 10, 2014

I stayed at this B & B in 2009 under prior ownership and I am pleased to report the experience was vastly improved, particularly the breakfast. Whereas in 2009 the "breakfast" was day old muffins and weak coffee in the front entrance hall, now the owners offer a full continental breakfast in a dining room on the lower level. The location, just off the Jardin des Gouverneurs and across from the Chateau Frontenac, is fabulous -- with a panoramic view of the St. Lawrence River as you walk out the front door in a quiet and private neighborhood. Having stayed in several of the hotels around this park, most are a bit dated. In the case of Chateau de Pierre, the room appointments, bathrooms and linens could use some renovations or replacement over time. Also, some rooms are more spacious than others -- while we had a large size bathroom, the couple we were travelling with had a bathroom the size of a closet and had to duck when using the shower. All in all, Chateau de Pierre is a great choice when visiting Quebec.

Room Tip: Room #9 has a small bathroom and if you are tall, you will have to duck in the shower.

The manager was very pleasant on our arrival, we got a very nice first floor room, but right by the stairways, so we thought we it might be a little noisy. Stayed four nights, and didn't hear a thing. The room was not big, but quite adequate for our needs.
The owners went way out of their way to make sure we were happy with everything. The breakfast was bountiful and fresh.
The location was perfect. Half a block away was a pretty park overlooking the St. Lawrence. Whatever activity you wanted was within a few blocks, from the Fort and the Grand Allee to the Funicular. The only "problem" is that the hotel is a just about the highest point in all of Quebec City -- easy downhill when you left, but long uphill coming back. It did help to work off all the extra calories from the marvelous restaurants, though.

I don't set my expectations low so that they might be exceeded - I go into an experience to wait and watch and look and feel. Five Days of AWESOME is what we got! Here's the list: discreet but totally dedicated hosts (great concierge service); impeccably clean rooms and public areas (a service staff honestly second- to-none!); location, Location, LOCATION!; comfortable beds (try to book Room7 third floor - I know it's a hike up the stairs but the reward is a PRIVATE BALCONY above the street - so romantic!); yes, the en suite bathroom is small but who spends much time in there anyway?; charming décor throughout (ask your hostess to explain the history of the place and you will delight in discovering WHY it is covered in red velvet wall-paper); ice and refrigerator available to keep wine cool; lovely breakfasts of fresh fruit, cheeses, those fresh baked croissants, muffins, and more and more. And even though parking is not on-site, the facility is close, safe and affordable via special arrangement with your hosts! This place helped make our experience "Paris-On-The-St. Lawrence!" Go, Go, GO!!!!!!!!!!

Room Tip: (Shhh.. Third Floor Room 7 is ROMANTIC!

Staying at this B&B was a good experience. The staff were very friendly and always helpful. The only disappointment, and I realize it cannot be changed, is the bathrooms are just functional and so very small. There is no place to put your toiletries in the bathroom. But that is a very small thing when you consider the rest of the room was beautiful, clean and comfortable. We had the best suite with a kingsize bed on the first floor. The location is perfect being within the walls of Quebec City but being on the edge made this accommodation very quiet. The breakfast was pleasant and adequate. I recommend this hotel in spite of the bathrooms.

Room Tip: Book the kingsize bedroom on the first floor if you can. The other rooms are less charming.

This hotel has an old-fashioned Victorian atmosphere and has a superb location inside the walls of the old city. We had a large bedroom on the first floor. The room was clean and comfortable with a good king bed. There is a very tiny ensuite toilet with shower/tub and a separate wash stand in the room. Our friends had two double beds in a room at street level with their own entrance. They found their room comfortable.
The breakfast was simple but adequate, the food set out buffet style. The staff were courteous and helpful. The indoor parking arrangement works well although it is a short walk away. We thought it was good value.

Perfect location, able to walk everywhere. Owners were most helpful and accommodating. Very clean rooms. Loved the fresh baked croissants at breakfast and fresh fruit. When I am back in town, I will definitely stay here again ... loved it!

Stayed at Le Chateau de Pierre June 12th-15th. The lobby has character and charm and the rooms were clean and comfortable. It is located in a great location in Old Quebec, within walking distance to everything. The breakfast included in the rate was more then adequate. All in all the hotel is a great value for the money.
