“Nice modern hotel within (very cold) walking distance of old city and other sights.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 22, 2011

Clean, modern rooms, roominess adequate for small family. Executive lounge is best I've ever seen in a Hilton anywhere. Within 10-15 mins walk of most of old city and Citadel. Staff was generally very helpful and pleasant. Main restaurant (Allegro) was very good - service was attentive and food was good.

The Hilton Quebec is a big high-rise hotel right on the edge of the old and beautiful section of Quebec City. We got what we thought was a good deal for it through Priceline. In actual fact, we would have been better putting the 95 dollars we paid towards a little boutique hotel. The entire room was worn, lacking in care, and the hotel nickels and dimes you on things that other hotels give you for free. To be specific in my criticisms, as we entered the room we saw some old key cards lying in the middle of the room. We wondered - had the room even been cleaned? Toilet was a bit grungy, so hard to tell. On our second day we had twice as many shampoos and soaps, so again makes you wonder if it was cleaned. Other criticisms of the room upkeep - bottom of the bathroom door was missing chunks of wood and paint on both sides. Room wall corners were dented and missing paint. Despite double occupancy, we only got two bath towels and they were so small I would have called them regular towels, not bath towels. The towels were so thin and worn that when you held them up to the light you could see light through them in patches. The shower fluctuated hot/cold/hot/cold rapidly - very unpleasant. The room was small and had no fridge (heck, even Hotel 7 or Econolodges have fridges - how ca a Hilton not have a fridge?!).
So that is all the criticisms of the room. Now we get to the ridiculous extra charges. When you arrive the hotel only has valet parking - at $25 a day! For a two night stay that would push up the hotel cost by another $50! We opted to park around the block - for an additional $17 a day. Most budget hotels have free parking. Also most budget hotels have free bottles of water in the room. Our Hilton room had two tiny bottles - for $3.50 each!!!!!! Needless to say we bought liter bottles at the nearest corner store. And finally - this review is being written on the internet in the Hilton room - which does NOT have wi-fi. Instead it has a plug in cord which you pay $7.99 for three hours for, or $12.99 for 24 hours of use. If you forget to unplug, as I did, it goes on deducting hours even if you are not using it. If you and your spouse both have computers - tough luck... one cord only! Good grief! Even cheap budget hotels have FREE wi-fi in this day and age! Only this Hilton could soak you for $12,99 for internet!
So bottom line, - if you think that getting this hotel for $95 through a website like Priceline is a good deal.... think again! Incidentally, usually this room goes for $120 - or at least that's what the Hilton says on its website - an even worse deal!!!!!
Oh, the hotel does have a nice gym with no extra charge - they even give you free towels. They also have a pool, however the pool is an outdoor pool. You enter by a little indoor area, then go through hanging door flaps into the pool proper. We were here on a day when it was about -10 degrees celsius with a strong wind. It was freezing cold in the pool. The pool itself was a lukewarm temperature, but outside the cold wind literally froze your head. My ears instantly ached, my nose turned into a popsicle and I was desperate to get back inside after less than two minutes. I'm not sure if it was so unpleasant due to the wind, or if the pool was colder than usual. NOT a pleasant experience. Any other swimmers (all children) were squashed into the six by six foot section of the pool instead and screamed every time anyone went in or out through the hanging flaps, letting in blasts of sub-zero wind. The only good thing was that there were nice hot showers in the change rooms. My husband and I both chose to stay in the shower for a LONG time to recover!

Dear Guest,
I would like to thank you for voicing your opinion regarding your stay at the Hilton Quebec. If we don't know what our guests don't like, we cannot improve.
I am truly sorry that your stay didn't live up to your expectations. I can assure you that every day, we strive to be the best. In your case, it seems that we didn't succeed. We will be following up on the cleanliness of the room, given as this is one of the most important aspects of delivering a room. I would also like to let you know that we are currently renovating our last unrefurbished floors between now and the beginning of summer.
As for some of the extra charges, we are currently working on projects to more accessible Wi-Fi. In fact, as of this past Monday, guests have free Internet in the lobby.
However, being in the middle of the city, we are not able to offer complimentary parking. We do have some interesting packages including breakfast and parking that you can enquire about.
I hope you will give us another chance and come back to visit us soon.
Kind regards.

This hotel was one of the best hotels I've stayed in! The Hilton Quebec was very clean, modern rooms, and great location. It was also for a ridiculously low price...i guess we went off season or something. Its only a 5 minute walk from the dance clubs and old city!

Although it is an old hotel, the staff was very helpful.
The room's clean and if you want to visit the Old Quebec, everything was within a short walking distance.

We paid for an upgrade to a larger room and it was worth it. There was a huge line up of students at the elevator and the Front Office Director escorted me up with the service eleavtor. Very nice touch indeed.
The next day they told me the students would be very noisy and they offered to change our room and give us an upgrade on a different floor and they would pay the gratuities. We declined but that is incredible service.

Things we didn't like: 1. They called our room a Queen but it was in fact a standard 54".
2. While you are rtated as being in Old Quebec, you are not. You are on a hill and the closest attraction is a 10-15 minute walk. 3. If you take valet parking, you must pasrk backwards which is very challenging especially during a storm. 4. We had picked the hotel to have a reunion on the 3rd of January. Boy were we let down by the menu. And it was not very good. Very, very disappointing actually as this event had been planned for 3 months. There was only 7 items. Caveat: Don't go to the Hilton with any thoughts of fine dining in a town renowned for fine dining. On the bright side, the bar was very nice and the servers were great.

Despite all that I would go back because despite the fine dining available in Quebec City, luxury lodgings are not plentiful. The Fairmont cost a fortune and the entry level rooms are riiculously small. Then there is Le Concorde which has absolutley NO amenities not even a lobby bar. They have nothing, nada, nyet other than location and if you want a drink you have to go to the 33rd floor, a restaurant where the service is slow. There is also the Delta which is next to the Hilton and that seems nice.

There are several boutique hotels if you like that sort of thing.

Generally pretty happy with our stay - we got a deal through a friend so that is why we stayed here, otherwise I wouldn't have paid the full price. We had to pay $11.95 per 24 hours of internet use which is crazy! we have stayed in 3 star hotels that offer free WIFI and yet a 4 star Hilton can't! The beds are small (double I think) and we had 2 beds in our room - probably would have been better to have a room with just 1 large bed (we were a family of 2 adults and a baby in a cot). The rooms don't have fridges which is a pain. Also, be aware of rooms that are directly opposite ice machines (i.e. room 703 on the 7th floor) because the machines are noisy (as are the people getting ice at 2am). There is a lovely outdoor pool that is open all year round, but in winter it is not hot enough to use - they need to increase the temperature to make it usable (it needs to be spa/jacuzzi temp). Concierge was helpful. No breakfast included with the room and the restaurant was super expensive so we went elsewhere for breakfast. You have to pay $20 per day for parking (or $43 per day for valet parking) so be aware of this! There was no information in the rooms about things to do in Quebec, restaurants etc so I phoned reception and they sent some menus up to us - this was helpful, however the menu we ordered from was out of date so prices and options were all different.
