“Fantastic Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 18, 2011

What a great hotel. Stunning views from the executive floor and the afternoon hors d'oeuvre were brilliant. Staff were also fantastic and the hotel was in walking distance to everything. Rooms are very modern too. Would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the parliament building, although views are great from any angle.

Our Hilton HHonors points gave us access to the Executive Lounge for a beautiful 180 degree view of the Old City and the Parliament Hill area. Location is everything with Hilton and we were within easy walking distance of the historical areas of the Old City as well as the bustling sidewalk cafes and nightlife along Rue St. Louis.

We were here for a week and wanted a comfortable room from which to base ourselves. We refused the first 3 we were shown - the 1st overlooked a very busy pool with raucous music in full swing, the 2nd had a funny smell, and the 3rd was so small that the only chair in the room was a swivel desk chair! Eventually we settled on a 'suite' for $50 more. This room was up high and had a truly magnificent view over the city - we never tired of looking out. And there were effective blackout curtains on the windows. However - the room itself looked as though renovations on it had begun but then abandoned. The wallpaper was fresh and the very small bathroom seemed to have new tiles and fixtures. But the carpet was old, the furniture was garage sale mis-match, the uphholstery stained and, in one case, ripped. The so called kitchen boasted a mini fridge, a coffee maker and a sink. But not a utensil in sight! The bed was missing its bed skirt and looked so unattractive, there wasn't a single picture on the walls, there was one bed side table and one lamp, the TV was the smallest I've seen since 1965, the Internet charge was $12.50 a day and wasn't WIFI, there was no safe, and there weren't enough hangers in the closet and after waiting over a day after I phoned housekeeping requesting more, I finally got the chambermaid to give me more. The 5 elevators seemed unable to handle the demand at certain times of the day and were not air conditioned and were therefore very hot. Parking was very expensive.
The staff however, were pleasant and willing to help as best they could.
If we ever return to Quebec City (and who wouldn't) we would try one of the other hotels that feature good city views.

Room Tip: Tell them you want a room high up overlooking the city.

Being a frequent business traveller, I cashed in some HHonors (hilton) reward points for a leisure stay here with my wife in June (sorry, I cannot comment on the relative $$ value of this hotel because I only paid the local taxes for this stay). Having never been to Quebec before we wanted a central location to explore the city from without having to rent a car. This hotel turned out to be absolutely perfect for us for two reasons: One was the unrivaled location on the hill, next to the pariliament building with immediate and easy walking access to the citadel, Vieux Quebec, and the Grande Allee restaurant / bar district and the plains of Abraham; Two was the absolutely stunning Executive Lounge on the 23rd floor! We had complimentary access because of my HHonors "gold" status but, I'll pay extra for this privelege in the future if necessary when we go back. The stunning panoramic views through the floor to ceiling windows on the 23rd floor of the whole area greeted us each morning as we enjoyed a wonderfully appointed continental breakfast and each evening as we returned from our wandering! The service rendered by the friendly and helpful staff was impeccable in the executive lounge, and also very good throughout the hotel. Our room wasn't huge or opulently luxurious but, it was very nicely appointed (de riguer for Hilton in my experience), very clean, and the views from our 10th floor window were also wonderful. We did try the restaurant in the lobby one night after returning late and found the service efficient and pleasant and the food delicious (french onion soup and a cheese plate with a glass of wine) with reasonable prices. The front desk staff was helpful, friendly, and professional. Because our stay was over a regional holiday "Saint John Baptiste" or "Quebec" day, we did experience nearly all night public partying on the streets just just outside our window our last night there - not enough to keep us awake but, enough to make us aware that this town really parties on Quebec day! The hotel staff very kindly explained the holiday, the celebratory habits of the locals on this night, the noise and the crowds, effectively preparing us for this event. Finally, the easy walking access to everything in the old town area as well as the easy walk down the hill to catch the commuter train to Montreal on the morning of our departure added to the enjoyment of our stay here. That old real estate mantra of "location, location, location" combined with wonderful facilities and the friendly, professional staff add up to make this hotel a winner in my book. For the way we like to travel, this was the perfect base for our first exploration of Quebec City. We hope to come back and enjoy this hotel in this wonderful city again in the future.

Room Tip: Do what it takes to get access to the executive lounge on the 23rd floor! You will not regret it.

We stayed 4 nights, had a room with a view of the Old City and the St.Lawrence.
View was magnificient, room was very comfortable and very well furnished.
The hotel is in a great location for exploring the attractions of Quebec.
Didn't eat in the hotel due to the number of restaurants within easy walking distance.
Food court beneath hotel very good for breakfast or Chinese lunch.

Room Tip: Request a view of the Old Town

Very large hotel essentially in center of city, providing easy access to all of the cool places to see in the city. Service, beds and rooms were all very good. Decent pool and fitness center, especially for business travelers. Size of hotel on top of hill provides excellent views of the city.

Room Tip: Higher the better
