“Nice but needs improving”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 1, 2013

From the outside the place looked perfect. But on the inside although it was friendly and welcoming there was a lot of renovation work going on which put me off a bit. But the rooms were more than comfortable and the breakfast in the diner joined with the hotel was good too

We stayed there 2 nights as a part of Cosmos tour. The hotel is on a busy road. There is a bus stop nearby and the bus no 800 or 801 will take you to the old town. They will tell you in a hotel that it is 15 min ride, but it is really 45 min. There is a big shopping centre on the opposite site of the road but it closes at 5.30pm and after that time there is no place nearby you can buy food/eat out. The hotel room was big and the beds too. There was fridge in the room, sink and microwave.
You need $3 cash to pay on a bus (no change) and the hotel reception will happily change you the notes. The biggest problem was with using the pool. To get to the pool you need to come to reception and leave your room key to get pool key. The pool was quite deep, but there was no-one watching it.
There were many kids constantly jumping into the pool. The strangest thing the pool has no changing rooms but it is surrounded by mirrors,
so you really need to change in you room, and afterwards you walk wet to receptions to exchange pool key into your room key. There are also no towels at the pool. You need to take one from the room, and afterwards call the room service to exchange the wet towel for a dry one - very strange rules.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a balcony.

My daughter and I are staying at Hotel Classique tonight. We came off the highway road weary and looking for a place to crash and this is the first place we wandered into. Usually, more research is done, but I did not think we would make it as far as Quebec City on the first day of our vacation.
Front Desk Staff helpful at check in. The lobby looked like a reno left not finished, ceiling half ripped off with exposed wiring. Huge and uninviting. Decor looks like retro 70's, complete with elevators boasting badly stained carpets, smelling strongly of mildew, half-finished wall fix-ups in the hall ways, and ceiling stucco that looked as if it had been badly damaged by water, with no sign of repair. We managed to get a room and popped up to put our stuff in before going to dinner. No carpet, I liked that and the beds looked nice. Front Desk Clerk said the restaurant in the hotel (Cosmos) was good, so we were eager to check it out and we went down immediately. He wasn't kidding. Wait staff very helpful and prompt. Great decor with an amazing veranda dining area and the food was top notch. The menu was very extensive and we settled on classic Quebec fare we had been craving: smoked meat sandwiches and a poutine along with a Cosmos salad. It was all wonderful.
The not so fun part started when we returned to our room and prepared to settle in. We opened the patio door to check the review and when the patio door, which was a semi-blocked off area on the rooftop, was closed again, realized the lock was broken. My daughter called down to the front desk and the response was that "no, the patio doors don't lock, we will send someone up with a bar to secure the door." A few minutes later, a young man came up to check on the situation and then showed up fifteen minutes later with a short stick, and a piece of vacuum pipe, neither of them long enough to secure the door. We asked for another room, so we had to pack up and show up at the front desk to get keys for another room. No apology, in fact we got the feeling that he was inconvenienced. The man at the front desk rudely asked if all our things were out of the old room, and sent us up to the same floor, but across the hall. The new room was a downgrade, if anything. Older beds and furniture, but the saving grace was there was plenty of hot water with amazing water pressure (although the tub didn't drain very well) and the room was clean.

Spent two nights at this hotel. The hotel is older but well maintained. Room was nice and big. There was a refrigerator, microwave and coffee machine in room that could be handy. Bathroom was a bit small though. The bed and sheets were really comfortable, had two good nights sleep. It is a bit far from the "vieux Quebec" but I am sure if you do not have transportation you can get to it quite easily by bus. By car it is about 15 min. but you have to find a parking which can be challenging. Really well located, huge shopping centre in front, a lots of restaurant around. We tried the hotel restaurant "Cosmos" which is pretty good.

Room Tip: Ask for room with a balcony - better scenery

We stayed at Classique Hotel in Quebec city for Canada Day weekend. Yes an older hotel but not older than the ones in Old city with rates double and rooms half this size. Traditionally rates are higher for Canada Day but not with this hotel. Location on Blvd. Laurier is perfect because of the nice area with lots of restaurants and shopping (Laurier Mall - Bay store Ralph Lauren collection amazing!) and in straight line to old Montreal and highway. Rooms are nice with hardwood not dirty carpet , beds excellent, nice balcony and kitchenette, large screen TV, etc. and direct access to the best place for crepes. Parking is free underground and the same for Wi-Fi not like in other hotels. We will definitely go back to this hotel. Staff excellent and extremely helpful in both languages. Good choice!

This hotel was clean and comfortable, however without having transport to the old town to sight see it might be a bit tricky. I believe there is a public bus though. There is an indoor pool and small gym on the ground floor. The hotel is a little older, however it is well maintained and was fine for what we needed, I would just suggest if you don't have transport, you might need to investigate a little more. We were on a bus trip so that aspect wasn't an issue for us.
