“Lack of common SSSense !!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed June 29, 2014

We wanted to try this place for a while since it is related to Toasts. We were a party of 4 and had dinner on the patio during Canada Day weekend.
2 out of 3 appetizers were good (salmon tartar and pulled pork poutine). My wife's starter was popcorn shrimp and though it could have been pleasant enough, it was much too salty.
3 out of 4 mains were good (Lobster mac'n'cheese, Angel hair pasta with duck confit and Chicken breast cooked "sous vide").
I personally had the boudin noir (blood sausage) as a main. Though its consistence was enjoyable, it was overly salty, beyond anything that could be considered edible!
Even though I had mentioned to our waiter the fact that my wife's starter was too salty and also that my main was equally too salty, nothing was done to compensate us. I asked our waiter to taste the boudin noir in the kitchen if he got the chance.
At the time of paying for the meal, I asked him for some news about the dish, he replied that the chef decided to throw away the whole batch of boudin after tasting it!!! I think I did them a favor letting them know about the horrible taste of their own cuisine, and I also think that simply waiving the 24$ dish from our 200$ bill before tip would have been appropriate (as you are not supposed to charge a customer for something you agree to throw at the garbage) and would have cost them less than what they will loose if only one potential customer opt not to try the restaurant because of this review.
Overall, this place has potential but it just lacks common sense!

Better go at Boulay bistro or L'Echaudé. Also, Patentes et Machins was quite recommendable.

“Great Casual Restaurant for Dinner in Old Quebec”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 17, 2014

We have been here now several times on trips to Quebec and it is one of those restaurants that never disappoints. The food is tremendous -- we had popcorn shrimp (perfectly seasoned and tender shrimp with a tasty dipping sauce) and glazed duck wings as an appetizer and then the BBQ ribs for our entrée this last time and it was "finger-licking" good down to the last bite! The wait staff is polite and efficient and tremendously knowledgeable about the menu and specials. If you're in the Basse Ville of Quebec and want a great option for a casual dinner, this is it!

“Very good food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 12, 2014

We had a dinner there as part of a package from Hotel des Coutellier. The food was very good, especially "Salmon tartar with sesame, avocado & salad" and pasta with duck. The service was attentive as well. Do keep in mind that three-course dinner has some items, for which you have to pay extra even if the package from the hotel may give an impression that it is all included (not a fault of this restaurant).

They also have nice deserts ("three cheeses" or something), great coffee, and do take Amex.

They have inside and outside settings; inside is very romantic.

“Delicious food, Fair prices”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 27, 2014

We very much enjoyed our meal at SSS. It came recommended by the staff at our hotel. I'm so glad that we decided to try it out on our last night. The atmosphere was lovely. There was beautiful artwork adorning the walls...and even the place-settings seemed somehow more upscale than usual. The service was friendly and efficient. We had the perfect table right by the front window, so we had a wonderful people watching perch. However, the best thing was the food. There was a wide assortment for those readers who like to try something different...but we tend to be relatively basic in our tastes. I had the BBQ Ribs. It was almost too fancy of a place to order such an entree, but I was in the mood. I certainly wasn't disappointed. They were "fall off the bones" delicious and a tasty BBQ sauce...as good as I've ever had anywhere...my mouth is watering right now, just thinking about it - mmmmmmm. My husband had the crab cake. He's an Annapolis boy, so he can be pretty picky with his crab cakes, but he was completely satisfied - while only 1 cake, it was all crab, with only enough filling to hold it together. We also had their feta/olive/paprika spread as an appetizer - mighty tasty - as well as a delicious, generously portioned salad. Our meal at SSS was the best of our 3 day trip. For our two other dinners, we ate at moderately priced places in upper old town. While we were happy with our meals there, as well, this was the only meal where we ordered meat - yet it was the least expensive dinner of our trip. Not to say that SSS is inexpensive, because it's not - it's just not as overpriced as everything at a higher elevation in the city.

“A tasty meal”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 26, 2014

Our hotel recommended SSS on our first night in QC. We really enjoyed our meal, very good service and a wonderful way to start off our visit to QC. We shared a meal after a couple of starters. Good portions of food. The steak tartar is unique as it is mixed with Chorizo and the crab cakes were very nice as well. Worth a drop into if you are nearby.
