“Clean, quiet, nice view, great location!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2013

We visited in May 2013. As part of a "Tripadvisor special", we each received a glass of wine on the night of our check in. Nice touch! The hotel is very clean and well maintained. Breakfast was great and there is a coffee/espresso/hot chocolate machine available at all times, as is fresh fruit. The concierge(s) were always able to give us great dinner recommendations, as well as show us a menu and call ahead for reservations! We drove to Quebec City and kept our car in the hotel's parking lot. Although we had the car, we seldom used it as many sites are within walking distance. Highly recommended!

Dear guest,

Coming from a top contributor to Trip Advisor, I consider your review as very special. It is obvious to me that you are traveling a lot worlwide and I am glad our accommodations and our team were able to please you so well.

Still thinking of us a few months later means also a lot... maybe you are planning to visit us again soon... our Holiday decor is ready for you with the fireplace lit up. Our city is beautiful and romantic covered with snow.

Warmest regards,

A well rested trip, a wonderful hotel, close to some fantastic restaurants that the staff recommended.
The bed was soft and cosy not like some bed that are hard and not comfortable.
The room was a good size with a view of the harbour. We could watch all the tanker traffic and the small craft. Love being close to the water as we are in the Georgian Bay area.
Not once did we have a problem with English the staff were most careful and accommodating
Breakfast was excellent lots of choice and fresh, and I loved the coffee.
Only thing that I would change as someone else has mentioned, the room was dark and I did have a problem when I lost a earring and couldn't find it due to not being able to see.

Room Tip: Staff did suggest to us that we take a room with a view of the St. Lawrence.

This was certainly one of the best boutique hotels I have stayed in. Firstly, my husband and I make our annual trip to Quebec City with his full size pick-up truck (21 feet long and 6'2" high lol) because part of our trip includes a visit to Ikea ;)... So finding parking is a challenge. The staff at this hotel was so great about reserving us a spot in their parking lot so that we had easy access in and out of the lot. The staff at this hotel is very helpful in other ways as well! As soon as we arrived, they provided us with detailed information about the area, the best rest aureate, shops and events that were going on that weekend. Our room was fantastic as well. It was very clean and comfortable (as was the rest of the hotel for that matter!). In the evening, chocolates and bottled water were delivered to our room which we greatly appreciated. The hotel also offers breakfast that is included in the room rate, and it was really surprising. There was a selection of pastries, cereals, breads, cheeses, juices, tea, coffee (and I should mention that there is an espresso machine available in the lobby for guests 24 hours a day), hard-boiled eggs, bagels, toast and fruit! Normally we opt out of hotel breakfasts, but we were glad we decided to check this one out! The lobby is organized and decorated in a way that makes it very inviting and comfortable to enjoy breakfast or a coffee break. The location of the hotel is great also as it is very close to a lot of great shopping. My husband and I have already decided that we will stay here again next year. Awesome!!

First impression on entering hotel was the welcoming feel and comfortable surroundings supported by the very friendly and pleasant reception staff. In fact all the staff we encountered were friendly and efficient. The reception / lounge area really does feel like a home from home and you are immediately relaxed in the surroundings. Coffee machine on hand 24/7 and in the morning breakfast has a good self service selection which you can eat either in the comfortable settees / armchairs or on one of the large communal tables creating a great morning environment for enjoying a leisurely start to the day. The lounge area is also where you can be served a comfortable pre dinner or after dinner drink before or after sampling one of the many close by inviting restaurants. No need for a car or taxi here within a few minutes walk you have a great choice in the streets of the lower part of Old Quebec and if you wish to venture further there is always the funicular or a testing walk to the upper part of the old city. Personally we preferred the immediate vicinity in the lower area.
Room was very comfortable with lots of low key and varied lighting options although no overall big bright light if that's what you wanted once the daylight had gone. Nice bathroom with one of the best showers I have ever experienced in a hotel, like a large walk in wet room.
Very comfortable bed, small desk to work on as needed, decent hanging space for a short stay and large room safe which is always welcome (easily fits a lap top).
Spent an enjoyable 3 days here and would certainly be first on my list of places to stay when I return.
If you are in a car there is convenient parking at the rear of the hotel.

You will feel like a grown-up but not in a stuffy way.
Terrific continental breakfast in lobby, great beds, clean, nice people who speak perfect English with a charming accent.
When you walk up the hill to the Chateau, you will thank your lucky stars that you didn't stay there (and pay $100 more per night). It feels like a bus station compared to the Germaine Dominion.

Room Tip: The king with a rollaway was great for my wife and I and our 11 year old. Better than 2 queen beds

Room TOO dark, otherwise a terrific stay. The staff are extremely friendly, very helpful and go the extra mile to make your time with them unforgettable. When my husband forgot his credit card in the room (after we had checked out) the front desk left a phone message and alerted the credit card company so they could contact us. We returned the next day and they had it for him. All ended well. We enjoyed Quebec and loved the Hotel Le Germain-Dominion.

Bonjour!

Thank you for taking the time to write a review about your last stay with us!

Depending of the orientation of your room, it is true that the light can come in either in the morning or in the afternoon. Next time, you can ask our reservation staff for a room with more natural light (either higher floor or a room on the Bank side which have corner rooms in the deluxe category).

We hope to welcome you again soon. Maybe during the winter, so you can experience a weekend in the Capital of the snow and warm up in front of our fireplace!
We wil be waiting for your call :)

This was our second time staying at Hotel Le Germain in Quebec City, but this trip we had the chance to stay at other high profile destinations throughout the province, and were reminded why Le Germain in Quebec City was our favourite, and I'll tell you why:

Location: Old Quebec is stunning, and is divided into upper and lower town, I personally find lower town (where Le Germain is located) to be less touristy and bit more trendy. There are amazing restaurants all over Quebec City, but a lot of our favourites (and highest rated on tripadvisor) are located in lower town. Regardless, everything is within walking/short cab ride distance. The street the hotel is located on also seems to be very quiet which is great for sleeping.

Service: I've stayed at many hotels around the world, but the staff at Le Germain are incredible. Always so freindly and helpful without coming across as trying to hard or being intrusive. Anything you need, they take care of, from reservations to information on tours etc.

Extras: Breakfast is included in the lobby at Le Germain, and its far from the traditional chaffing dishes of scrambled eggs. Its a lovely continental breakfast of fresh coissants, toast with preserves, fruit, cheese, hardboiled eggs, yogurt, granola, etc. There is also a complimentary espresso machine in the lobby that makes lattes, cappucinos, americanos, hot water for tea, hot milk for hot chocolate etc. which is so nice to come home to after a chilly night on the town.

Ambiance: The hotel is elegant with a warm welcoming lobby and to me has the perfect blend of old world charm and modern elegance. It feels small enough that you don't feel like you're one of a million staying there but without feeling like a B&B.

Rooms: If you're travelling with a family like we were, book early as there are only a handful of rooms with two double beds, the rest are single Queens or Kings. The beds are heavenly, Le Germain have the best matresses EVER, you will sleep better than you have ever slept before. If you are interested in having a more uniquely styled room, I recommend staying on the older side of the hotel (there are two sides, one historical, one modern addition, to me they both look newly renovated) but the ones on the historical side have these big, cool bathrooms with a huge rain shower where as the other side have relatively standard bathrooms with bathtubs.

The rooms come fully equipped, amazing bath products (Molten Brown) bath robes, bose stereo (which they have playing for you upon arrival) glassware, even truffles on the pillow and Wifi is FREE!

Le Germain is hands down worth every penny, I honestly can't think of one thing that was less than perfect (and I'm honestly a very picky traveller) I've stayed at less expensive hotels and ended up paying more because everything from coffee, to wifi to breakfast is extra and the experience is nowhere close to Le Germain. Stay here, I promise you won't regret it!

Room Tip: Rooms on the historical side have a more unique decor/layout. Book early if you want two double b...
