“Staying in a vintage hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 28, 2013

I stayed at the Clarendon in Quebec in July. The weather had been unsettled with rain so the location was much appreciated. We did not have a car so we were able to walk to all of the tourist spots easily. The hotel room was small but comfortable and clean. I recommend the Clarendon

Terrific location so close to all the sights. Great staff of younger people. Small room but for the price it was good. And, it was quiet (no street, hallway, etc. noise). It's an old building and even though we were on the 6th floor, I could smell breakfast in the morning.

It was my first time in Quebec, we booked a standard room, it was a narrow for a double bed, but it was ok, the only concern was the window, we couldnt open it and the air didnt changue.
The personal were always friendly and treated all the time very good.

Thank you for your helpful coment on Tripadvisor.

The hotel's room division was mainly kept as it was in 1870. In fact, this is contributing to the hotel's charm. Some modification had been made is the last year to give bigger and noise proof rooms to our guests. We are very happy to read that you enjoyed our delicious breakfast as well as our perfect location.

Three sisters (ages 67, 70 and 76)and a couple of husbands planned a three day August time in the old city at Hotel Clarendon close to fine restaurants and art shops. The trip was booked with Travelosity.com in July. We all arrived at check in time to fine the hotel says they have no reservation for us. A call to Travelosity confirmed that they did in fact have confirmation numbers for our rooms. An agent calling himself a supervisor had called Travelosity and negotiated a solution for the issue; they consorted and booked rooms at the Hilton a short $10 cab ride away for the same price as the July booking price. Clearly the July price for the Clarendon was a good bit lower than the price the room was worth to a "walk-in on August 19th. A good guess is the the rooms were sold to a walk-in or close to that and we were told to go away. Travelosity also failed to object to the terrible situation. This may be common practice so I would suggest that travelers beware of this hotel.

Room Tip: If you have booked in advance at a much lower price than the going rate on arrival date, check in ea...

Good day,

We are very sorry for the event that happened at the beginning of your stay in Quebec city. This is not a commun practise that we do. In fact, we never received your reservation by the third party you reserved with and were fully booked that night. We found you a room in an other four star hotel close to the old city and with a lot of services.

Again, we are very sorry about this, and we hope to have you as a guest in our beautiful hotel !

We stayed here for one night on our way up north. The location is fantastic, old town, river walk, citadelle, and close to all the restaurants , museums and churches.
The price is right, the breakfast menu is great and we had superior two double room on the fifth floor.
Spacious with a view of the old town and chateau Frontenac.
We will stay here again.

Room Tip: superior rooms

We only spent 1 night at the hotel , but we loved the location right down the street from Chateau Frontenac , Place Dufferin and step away from Vieux Quebec and Basse Ville . We arrived early around 1pm and our room wasnt ready . They were very busy but they did pre check us in advance so we wouldnt have to wait for when our room would be ready. They took our luggage and held them securely. So we could go and enjoy the city. The staff were very friendly and service with a smile and 100 % bilingual (french, english). The room was small but it was expected due to beeing the oldest hotel in Quebec city, lobby was large, with wifi access free of charge throughout the hotel. They had a nice dinning room and bar area with jazz nights.

i was very excited to be staying in this beautiful historic hotel based on the reviews I had read. Sometimes you wonder if a place will live up to your expectations and in this case the answer in "YES." From the moment we arrived we were treated as special guests We arrived in the city on an early flight so did not expect our room to be ready but they stored our luggage, gave us a map and off we went to explore. The location is perfect for exploring both the upper and lower old city. We returned later to be checked in and Anthony aranged a carriage ride for us to be picked up at the hotel. The next morning I was not feeling well and wanted a soft drink. When I went to the machine it was not operating so the manager on duty took over and got me a soft drink. I have a bad knee and was not comfortable in the tub without a mat so all we had to do was ask a member of the housekeeping staff and she brought us one. We were on the 5th floor with a view of the river - could even see the the Image Mill lights from our room. The room was smallish but very comfortable - we loved the hotel's history and how tastefully it was preserved. Every member of the the staff that we had the pleasure of working with made our stay truly special. If we ever have the opportunity to return this is where we will be staying! Thank you

Room Tip: have good walking shoes - there is much to see in the old city
