The Hotel Clarendon was recommended to me by a work colleague but before I booked, I checked the reviews of Trip Advisor. As you can readily see, the reviews are a little uneven but essentially correct. The location is wonderful – the hotel is centrally located and within easy walking distance of major attractions, shopping and restaurants and if you’re looking for accommodations with great character and history like the great hotels of Canada such as the Royal York in Toronto but slightly scaled down, then the Clarendon is the place for you. There are some comments on Trip Advisor about the rooms and décor being dated but they are exactly as depicted in the hotel web site. They aren’t made up of gleaming brass and porcelain but they are very clean, well maintained and comfortable. We had breakfast in the dining room and it was very impressive with its high ceilings and superb atmosphere. What are the downsides? Statements on Trip Advisor suggest that the hotel management has changed recently and presumably for the better. The front desk and concierge are staffed by very enthusiastic and friendly personnel who are also very young and inexperienced. There were several mistakes made with respect to our reservation including the number of people in our group and the charges for breakfast that even with some adjustments reflected in a costlier hotel bill. I’m fairly confident that these issues will be ironed out over time, however, even with these negatives, I would recommend the Clarendon as a place to stay in Quebec City.

Thank you for having taken the time to write a review about our hotel. Constructive comments like yours are the best ones in order for us to know what to improve and how to improve it. You can be certain that our staff have seen your review and will surely behave the good way if another billing mistake occurs again. Most of them are effectively pretty young, but we think that it brings life back in our old hotel. Let's say that we gain experience in being confronted to problems and situations that we are not used too. You surely helped one of our front desk agent to get better in the job that he or she is doing. Regarding your stay, we are happy to see that you have been able to enjoy the benefits of our location and that your overall stay has been the way you wanted it to be. Thank you so much and we hope to see you back again soon.
