My girlfriend and I and her two young adult daughters spend three days between Xmas and New Year's at the Clarendon, and we were very pleased with the choice. The rooms and bathrooms were spacious and comfortable (the high ceilings in this old building were a pleasure), the location of the hotel was ideal for walking just about anywhere in the surrounding Vieux Quebec, and the bi-lingual staff were professional and courteous.
Other than a delicious family-styled breakfast offering, don't count on eating there, though (which is not a problem considering the wealth of dining options in town). We had briefly considered staying at the internationally known and sumptuous Frontenac Hotel just three blocks away, but took the chance on the lesser offerings of the Clarendon because it appeared charming enough from the web site, was less than half the cost, and we needed two rooms. Good decision.
I would recommend the Clarendon without any hesitation for visitors seeking a pleasant, comfortable and convenient stay, if less-than luxurious, at a reasonable cost.
