Words are not enough to say what an amazing hotel this is. If one is in Quebec City and can possibly afford it, stay here ... you'll have a lifetime memory that will pay dividends forever. And to make that memory even better have a meal at the Champlain as my wife and I did and if you are lucky you'll have Etienne as your server and that will be the icing on the cake. A great hotel .... fabulous staff and food to die for ... a winning combination that make Fairmont one of our favourite places to stay,

Check-in was a mess. The front desk denigrated the room that we were to have (their selection) and asked me if I wanted a different room; when I indicated yes, the check -in staff person began negotiating an increased rate with me, bargaining was if this were a flea market. The room was fair in size and amenities. The heating/air conditioning controls were virtually impossible to use. The. staff was somewhat snobbish and the concierge attendants not helpful at all. When I requested a late checkout I was offered one hour; when I asked for another hour and a half, the hotel wanted to charge me an extra $25. The TV in our room was not working, and it took three calls and50 minutes of waiting for someone to come and address then problem. The Frontenac has one thing going for it: location in Quebec City. Otherwise, very very disappointing.

This iconic hotel run by Fairmont is much bigger than most of the hotels we tend to stay at, so it perhaps fell a little short for us because of the size of the operation. We stayed for four nights and had one of the rooms (8119) with modern decor and windows of two sides so we had fabulous views over the St Lawrence River and beyond. Of the hotels's facilities we only used the bar and the spa and both were good. A major gripe was being charged CAD 15 per day for wi-fi. With wi-fi infrastructure long established, is this really necessary now? And why antagonize guests when free wi-fi is offered to Fairmont President's Club members which you can join for free anyway. Other grumbles were our room not being made up on one day (inexcusable), spring loaded minibars that activate payment as soon as you move an item (annoying but possibly necessary in really big hotels) and an in-room bottle of water which costs CAD 9 if opened (similar bottles are CAD 5 in the middle of Quebec City's tourist district). We had an enjoyable stay but if we returned to Quebec City ( a beautiful city!), we would perhaps stay somewhere more intimate and hopefully less penny-pinching.

We stayed here 2 years ago and liked it enough to do this again. The hotel is looking its best. The staff are as efficient and courteous as can be. Got a signature room with prime view-an awesome view of St Lawrence River. The bed is extremely comfortable. The beautiful bedroom and marble bathroom are very spacious and have top decor/amenities. The windows are impressively soundproof. With them closed we couldn't hear any noise even though the boardwalk of the River is just outside the windows. The reading light above the bed is a plus. We brought our little dog and they gave us a good room near the elevator. Very convenient yet still quiet. It even has a little anteroom with a separate powder room. Overall a fantastic experience. This is a luxury hotel with a big price tag. It's worth to note that if you spend most of your day sightseeing, probably better to get a regular room with courtyard view as the riverview rooms cost more. If you want free wifi, sign up for their president's club-it's free.
