I hate staying at outdated hotels, so paid extra money for a "newly renovated room". It turns out the room should be called "newly decorated". I guess te hotel invested in the decor and forgot to take care of the rest. The air conditioning equipment is still probably from the 1980s. It was so loud that we needed to turn it off to get some sleep. Water preassure of the shower was the worst that I ever experienced in a hotel. Room is small, but very large if compared to tiny bathroom. By the way the bathroom doors don't fully close so don't expect too much privacy. It was also annoying that the renovation team forgot to put sufficient and accessible power outlets in the room and there is no night stand in one of the sides of te bed. So why still I ranked it as a 4 stars? Well, location, history, friendly people, great bar and restaurants. The hotel is right by the funiculaire that takes people to the lower part of the city and back. My favorite part was the lower one (Fairmont is in the upper city) and probably next time I will try Hotel 71 which I visited because it was connected to a very good italian restaurant called Il Matto, which I fully recommend.
