“Winter in Quebec”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed yesterday NEW

We are from Massachusetts and went to Quebec to get away from the snow in mid February. We stayed at the Frontenac and were quite pleased. Our room was a recently renovated room on the 10th floor. The room was quite clean and spacious. The only down side, there are no bureaus in the rooms all storage is in the closet. We had a large closet so this posed no problems for us, although when you are short person reaching high shelves it can be tricky. Location of the hotel is very convenient for touring the old city. We did not eat at the hotel as there are many restaurants in the area that are better priced. While at the hotel there was a youth hockey tournament happening so the pool was full at all hours so we did not have the opportunity to use the pool although it looked to be quite a nice. All staff are friendly and helpful. Old Quebec is beautiful city and must see and a stay at the Frontenac a great option.

Room Tip: 10th floor peacefully quiet

Green Features: We are used to recycling so was pleased to see the hotel also is a participant.

We spent nearly 2 full days here. as a treat on the way to a project we were doing, and were happy we did! Our Amex card gave some extra perks, and we couldn't have been more pleased with the whole experience. The staff was outstanding, from the moment we drove up until we departed. Extremely polite and correct, and trained to provide fantastic service. Our room overlooked the towers to the river. The bed was like sleeping on clouds. All amenities in the room, TV, coffee, etc. Bathroom was small but comfortable. There was a pool and spa at our disposal. The actual historic interior is gorgeous! We have seen it before, but have not stayed here. The shops are pricey, but fun to visit. Dinner at the Fairmont was truly a highlight - we had the red deer. The preparation was to die for! French cuisine at its' best, with ample portions. The next morning, we had the brunch which included pretty much anything you could imagine to eat and then some. It was included, and again, a great experience. Well presented and prepared. I cannot really think of ANY negatives! We had a refurbished room, which was a plus.

Room Tip: newly renovated, upper floor.

The staff works hard to make your stay the best. Concierge takes the time to suggest good places to visit.
Only negative if any is that if staying for only 3 days the spa doesn't seem to have enough available hours for appointments. People I guess must book in advance.
We reserved a studio type room since we are a family of 5. It was perfect size. So rare a hotel accepts 5 in a room even if young kids! Most try to charge me 2 rooms! It was on same floor as pool, spa, gym (6th) so our daughters really liked that.

I booked a stay at this fantastic hotel last week through Hotwire, and got an amazing deal for a 5-star hotel. As with other Hotwire deals I've had in the past, it seemed like they placed me in specific "lesser" rooms, however I was not disappointed at all. My stay was broken up into two, as we had a single night stay at the Ice Hotel in the middle of our vacation, thus we had two different rooms. Our first room was right next to the entrance to their Pool, exercise and spa area, however the rooms must be insulated from noise, as we were never disturbed by noise when awake or asleep. It was also extremely convenient to have the pool around the corner.
The second stay we had, the woman at the front desk welcomed us back and indicated she "upgraded" our room to one with a good view of the St. Lawrence river, however it was a smaller room than our first one. The room was roomy enough for us though.

The front desk and valet staff were extremely nice, wanting to ensure we had the best stay possible. We asked for a roll-away bed for our 7 year old, and extra child-size robe for her, both of which were supplied promptly and without any extra charge (save for a small tip to the staff member who brought them up).

The best feature of all that we encountered was that hybrid or electric vehicles may park free at Chateau Frontenac -- this is 1st class valet service with full in/out privileges. Just mention that you have a hybrid to the front desk when you check in (Valet staff informed us of this when we first arrived). Just make sure you tip your valet well. :) We tipped CAD$5 each time we took the car out. I was happy to pay that given such great service.

If you're here in winter, I also recommend walking around the back-side of the Chateau - the side facing the river - and taking a trip down the toboggan run - really fun. The funicular is also extremely close-by, affording a quick elevator-like trip down to narrow streets of old quebec below, where there are some great options for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Cochon Dingue was one of the places we stopped for breakfast several days. Other days we walked the other direction from the Chateau to Paillard - an excellent modern Boulangerie (it's a small chain).

Room Tip: 6285 is where we stayed the first night. I think it's their "hotwire special" room, r...

Green Features: The best thing is that they give a perk to those who brought a hybrid or electric vehicle to the hotel - free Valet parking! (a CAD$32/night value). Other practices are same bed linens for 3 nights unless you put a card out, same towels if hung up, and a recycle bin, honored by our housekeeper.

I've stayed at most of the Fairmonts and this is one of my favorites, if not my favorite Fairmont.

The recent updates to the hotel are exceptional. The front desk staff including the chasseurs and the concierge are, as always, some of the best you will ever meet. I've stayed at the hotel about 6 times and I've yet to have a bad experience with the hotel.

The heated swimming pool and gym are both very nice. The bar is worth having a drink in.

If you are going to visit Quebec City I'd suggest trying to spend at least one night at this iconic hotel (even more so around Christmas time).

My only caveat would be to avoid the restaurant (The Champlain) which I'm going to review separately. There are a lot of amazing restaurants in Quebec city and the Champlain falls flat at best.

In sum: The hotel staff are amazing. The old building is stellar and full of character. Highly recommend a stay in this hotel.

My 2 teenage girls and I made our first trip to Quebec and this was the perfect place to stay. It was close to everything, everyone was very nice and friendly, the girls loved the pool, it was worth staying there and we will go back again.

It's like a fairy tale castle from the exterior and if you're fortunate to be staying in a Fairmont Gold room you'll feel like royalty. This service totally exceeded our expectations. From arrival we were greeted personally, allocated a luxurious signature turret room. Bed was so comfy we didn't want to get up. The breakfast on the Gold lounge was delicious as were the evening hors d'oeuvres. Superb nespresso coffee available until 10 pm. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
