“Horrible wifi connection”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed yesterday NEW

I am a member of the President's Club and generally enjoy the quality of Fairmont hotels, especially the quality of service offered. This establishment provides a reliable Fairmont experience on that front and the recent renovations have brought the restaurants to the level of what one expects at a hotel of this standing. However, the horrible and slow wifi connection generates a fair amount a frustration considering the price charged for a room. That's not what is expected at a luxury hotel in 2014. Considering how much money went into the renovations, would buying a bunch of broadband modems be too much to ask for?

The Chateau Frontenac in Quebec City is not inexpensive, but a must stay at least once in a lifetime. My wife and I have visited Quebec City several times and always promised ourselves that we would stay at this grand old lady and this time we did. To mark this event we upgraded our reservation for a river view and it was well worth it.

Many if not all of the rooms have been refurbished; we got one of these and it was very well done. The designers of the room seemed to have anticipated everything. We were in a ninth floor; our room was quiet and very comfortable. The view was wonderful.

Every staff member from the concierge down to housekeeping were cheerful, helpful and courteous.

I would have given an 'excellent' review if not for our dining experience at their Champlain Restaurant. The meal was okay but not memorable. Maybe we expected too much because it was our last night and our stay had been a wonderful experience otherwise. Sorry that I cannot better explain, it was just a bit of a let-down. Nothing about the meal seemed particularly disappointing, but nothing stood out as special either which I guess is what we expected. The service was fine, but the meal just fell a little flat for us. Other dining experiences in Quebec City did not disappoint. Still, when we return we will stay at the Frontenac and probably give the Champlain another chance.

Room Tip: Ask for a river view. Ours was a 60/night upgrade, but worth it.

If you are going to visit old Quebec City this is the perfect location. The beautiful chateau dominates the view of the city from virtually every perspective. Room was spacious; classic decor was tasteful with very modern amenities. TV had proper digital signals for good HD reception. We had a great view of the river. Check-in was a breeze and everyone we interacted with were friendly and helpful. Valet put bottled water in the car for our departure. Every time we walked through the lobby we noticed more of the exquisite construction of this historic building.

Room Tip: A view of the river makes the stay even better.

This is our fifth stay at this hotel and our third one as "Christmas in November" special weekend. This year, we saw all the renovations they have been doing for the last year or so (75 Million $). We had a nice room on the 6th floor, but it was more like 6-1/2 floor. We had to take some stairs to reach our room from the sixth floor. But it was all right, we had a nice view on the St. Lawrence and the Promenade, a first for us. We participated into the 2 seminars offered by the hotel, one about mixing drinks at the new 1608 Bar and another one showing us recipes served at the Château with the famous Chef Stephane Modat. It was great. We were able to get a table at the magnificent Champlain restaurant and everything was perfect. The only down side would be the 1608 Bar. We were there at 2 different times and it is hard to find a table for a drink and it is very noisy, not cozy like it was before. More modern is not always better. For the room, the bed was very comfortable with nice linen. We had a hard time adjusting the heat in the room, it would get really warm fast, we had to adjust at the lowest or when we would shut it down, it would get cold. We had a hard time with the TV too, the cable was not working good for a lot of channels. One thing we would appreciate would be free Wi-Fi, this being offered in a lot of hotels. To resume, it was a great stay with personnel very helpful and friendly. We will be back for sure.

Room Tip: A room with a view on the St. Lawrence is really worth it.

Please that stay at the Frontenac is staying for the history and overall level of service. If you want a new and trendy room, this is not the place. This is a true historic hotel, with traditional look. The service is great, the location is great, and the overall services offered at the hotel is second to none. I had a great experience, and the Gold Level is something to experience. We loved the wine bar and our front desk service was great. Clean and comfortable rooms.

my 4 year old and six year old girls always wanted to stay in a castel and thats what we did. We drove from NYC on the Easter Passover school break. As the airfare is impossible during the "schools out" time. I bought a three row SUV and mapped a five hundred mile radius fromvthe fun city. I came up with DC, Wilkimsburg, VA, Upstate NY, Montrael and Quebec. As I never would journey north because I hate the cold the referrals to the Chateau from my many friends and my two girls responses to the YouTube videos made me put my brand new used SUV into drive. The trip was real nice. One you get out if the city and northern counties you frrk like its vacation time. The rude accrisd the Thousand Mule Bridge is breath taking and another trip in it srkf. The Chateau us in too of a hill in old Quebec City Frence style town. I say "French Style" becsuse I know France and this is a little more like little Italy as compared to Italia but much larger. Expensive, big time. But my little Orincessess stayed in a castle. From there we drive about five hundred miles to n pristeen toll free roads to Chateu Montibrllo and stayed in the wirlds largest log cabin structure. Again the kids were in heaven. It was also in Quebec. Then back to NYC fifteen hundred miles well worth it. The kids still talk about it. Expensive as they do jot give you any credit for US Dollars in the ships or restaurants but the hotel gives you a good exchange for your USD.

My husband and I were able to celebrate his 79th birthday in grand style at this beautiful hotel. We were treated like royalty and it could not have been better.
Everything is special from the room to the superb dining experience.
Thank you all.
