“Fantastic position in the heart of Quebec City”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed yesterday NEW

This hotel is one of the Fairmont Grandes Dames but is not as dark and dowdy as the Chateau Laurier in Ottawa. We stayed in one of the Fairmont Gold rooms which has recently been renovated. Unfortunately, we were unable to get a suite or a river view but the city view was pleasant if somewhat noisy from the deliveries to the hotel which take place during the morning and, also, there is a certain amount of noise from the air conditioning units at the back of the hotel. The room was nicely decorated with good amenities but the bathroom was very small. They have taken out the bath and replaced it with a good walk in shower with plenty of pressure. The new club lounge is excellent and the Gold staff very friendly and helpful. Always smiling and happy to help with any queries you might have. Also, excellent housekeeping staff. The Fairmont Gold lounge is on the 14th floor and has stunning views over the river. It's just a shame they don't clean the windows. The only complaints I have are with regard to the constant barrage of onlookers at the entrance which you have to negotiate every time you come back to the hotel and the doormen's reluctance to disperse smokers standing on the front steps despite the 7m rule which, apparently is not enforced (more's the pity) door men also seem reluctant to open the door for anybody, directing people, instead, to the revolving doors.

Room Tip: Try and get a river view

The outside of the hotel is an architectural edifice, and it's size is overwhelmingl. However since it has been converted from a 176 room hotel, to a 615 room hotel it certainly has lost its old charm.
It is a large, expensive hotel, certainly no chateau. However the view of the stunning St.Laurent river is breathtaking.
The food at the Champlain restaurant was also very expensive and disappointing.

We spent a lovely night in a suite at this beautiful hotel and the location couldn't be topped; however, we found the food and service to be pretty ho-hum. We decided to have afternoon tea and wasted so much time waiting I certainly would never do it again. We waited a long time for a table even though the room was pretty empty, we waited for a menu, we waited FOREVER for a tea tray of sandwich/sweets (which were relatively unremarkable),..... STILL NO TEA ..., we were served scones and then WAITED for the cream & jam to put on them.....STILL NO TEA....and as other tables of people came and went we finally got something to put on our now cold scones and a pot of tea. Never again! I was looking forward to dinner later that evening in the lovely dining room that I remembered. Silly me. They remodeled and the banquette seat was so ridiculously low that the host had to get me a pillow to sit on. I felt odd about that until I noticed that everyone else at a banquette seat had to have a pillow as well. Fairmont needs to get their money back from that decorator. The menu was extremely limited and the food was no where near the caliber of what this hotel should have. Overall, I would probably stay here again just because of the location, but don't bother with the restaurant. Much better food had elsewhere in this lovely city.

Room Tip: One bedroom suites are very nice, however the bathrooms are ridiculously tiny for such a giant room...

We drove from Montreal and arrived late afternoon to the Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac.....an awe inspiring, architectural masterpiece. Loved the grand courtyard where we handed our car to the liveried valet service attendant.
The lobby was very grand and impressive. It was packed with holiday makers mostly from the US and Europe. The check in went very smoothly. Unfortunately, the elevators took a very long time to come. Lovely big room with a King size bed and terrific view of the mighty St. Laurent river. Breakfast at the Club Lounge was great.
Stayed only one night but found the staff all very helpful. From the pleasant smiling Valet to the Front desk, and Club lounge staff.....
Lovely cobbled streets lead to quaint shops full of arts & crafts by local Quebec artists, great restaurants, boutiques, cafés etc.
Too short a visit, definitely worth coming again for a full weekend or more.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms with the river views and a higher floor.

Husband booked to celebrate our 65th birthdays. What a delightful experience and we will return next year. Great location, staff, food and service. No noise from the hall or elevator and we were extremely close.

An emblematic landmark and architectural jewel. An inescapable reference in Quebec City. An unbeatable location, right within the old city, with breathtaking views on the majestic St-Laurent. Luxurious, but never conspicuously so. Plus, everything you can possibly want from a grand hotel. Prices within range for its category. Definitely worth a stay.

Although we had a lovely room, from our bed we only see fluffy clouds through the high small windows. Yes, it was romantic, but a room on a higher floor with bigger windows would be more desirable. Make sure you have a view of the river. There is a huge pecking order for room assignments. Membership in the Fairmount Club makes the experience even better thanks to the concierge lounge which has marvelous food. You might want to have late dinners so that you can fully enjoy cocktail hour and hor'd. while overlooking the majestic river and citadel.
