Beautifully perfect! Everything was great, the staff were super friendly, helpful and courteous. Location was superb. The hotel is clean and crisp and worth every penny. I would recommend this for couples, families, business or other.

We went to the 1608 bar (formerly St Lawrence bar). Great views and bar looks spectacular. We were quizzed on entry about the age of my daughter (she's 19) and with a patronising 'just this once' we were let in. The menu is an iPad which is cool. The table was great, views of the river spectacular. But we waited and waited. And waited. It was as though we were wearing invisibility cloaks. So were other patrons waiting hopefully with empty glasses. Two staff were busy. One entering incredible amounts of info into a till (it's a bar, not Nasa) and the other chatting loudly to two American customers at the bar whilst happily ignoring everyone else. We left. But we enjoyed the free sit-down and views. So 2 stars.

Let me preface this by saying I love the old CP hotels, and I have been waiting to visit the Frontenac for pretty much my whole life. Also, I had just come from an excellent stay at the Fairmont Queen Elizabeth in Montreal, so perhaps overall my expectations were too high.

This is a hotel that should should get a 5 star rating. It is exceptional in location and style alone, and has a rich history in luxury accommodation. But...

We had problems at check in. Room wasn't ready, but we were early so that was fine. They gave us keys & said they would phone when it was ready. We checked back a few times, but it still wasn't ready. Never did get that phone call. Four hours later, at 4:30, it still wasn't ready, and in fact they didn't have that type of room available anymore. They said something was wrong with the room, which may have been true, though I couldn't help but wonder if they had given it to someone else in a mixup. Our bags had been sitting in the lobby on a cart for 4 hours, lightly monitored. They downgraded us to a small room, suffice it to say we were disappointed, and I felt they could have told us earlier (or phoned us as promised) so at least we could have put our bags safely away and changed our clothes etc. A few hours later they managed to move us to a nicer room, gave us some perks, and I do believe that the clerk was really trying his best for us. When we finally moved into the new room, the maid arrived a few minutes after us saying she hadn't finished cleaning it yet! Sigh. Finally, the pull out couch bed was terrible- worse mattress than on the pullout couch of my mother's basement. We put an extra blanket underneath the sleeper to try to limit the effect of the pokey springs. No one expects a fantastic mattress on a pullout, but the one at the Fairmont Queen Elizabeth was much better.

We ate 4 meals at the Frontenac. I was disappointed with the room service food- not overly warm or tasty. The restaurants seemed poorly run. They all seemed attached, so I can't say for sure which one we were eating at when. In general though, there was a lot of staff around, but what were they all doing? There weren't many tables to fill at breakfast and lunch when the bar was closed, but there were a lot of hostesses filling out a lot of slips of paper and entering things into the computer while the line got longer and longer. Inside, there were empty tables. Systems inside the restaurant also seemed unnecessarily difficult. For example, someone ran the food from the kitchen to the waiter's counter, and then it just sat there, sometimes for quite a while, til the waiter had time to serve it. Beautiful view, but I wouldn't suggest eating here more than once. Also, the menu at Sam was very small. For the size of the hotel, the restaurant space is very limited, and when a cruise ship is in port they seemed overrun- make a reservation or eat elsewhere. We'd received free breakfast due to our room mix up. The waiter still made us sign for it, while attaching the coupon to our receipt, and of course, we were charged for breakfast after all. Another hassle to get that removed. Part of the problem may have been that everyone in the line appeared to have one type of free breakfast coupon or another, so perhaps it was just too much to keep track of.

I would say that the bell staff was excellent, and the clerk at the front desk who we dealt with last did work hard on our behalf. Really it seemed more like it was the systems in the hotel that let us down. While it is a beautiful building with a great view, I don't think I would stay here a second time. There appeared to be a lot of quaint looking hotels in the area that might be worth trying instead.

This is Hotel is almost concluded all of its construction and is looking spectacular. We stayed in a new room in the tower, (9th Floor) and had great views of the river and lower town. The staff is exceptional continually going above and beyond the call. We look forward to returning in the years ahead.

One random and weird situation is related to their procedure for seating guests in their two bars and restaurants. I am sure this will be remedied in the near future by increasing staff head count and staff becoming more familiar with the software governing their seating plans, but it is the oddest thing for myself and my husband, both New Yorkers, to have to wait on line at 15 minutes a pop just to have a seat at the bar - especially when the place was empty in the middle of the day. Nevertheless, the staff, in all three restaurants seem short-handed, retained an air of perfect service and friendliness.

Room Tip: Try to get on the Gold Floor, if not possible, spring for the River View guarantee rooms.

staying here is like in fairy tale world, the architecture is very nice with corridor and the wall that still in good condition. The room, if you lucky and having the same room like us is very nice room with view to the river. the bed is ok and sleeping quality also fine, heard some noises in the basement like truck loading etc but very minor and we re stay in summer so well everybody is out and make noise :p but compare to view and the design of this chateau all is worth. The breakfast is simple, bit surprising for a chateau because i imagine we will be having like king and queen breakfast :) . the surrounding is very nice with some museum and restaurant and within walk distance to the Old port and old Quebec, there is a lift also if you lazy to go to Old Quebec with your foot.

Room Tip: room with a view to the river is best

Stayed here for our honeymoon. Luggage lost en route to Quebec, however, the staff at this hotel provided toilet bags, etc, and helped us in our search for the luggage. Nothing was a problem for them, we felt very much at home and would recommend this hotel to everyone. A great place to stay.

Room Tip: We had a room looking into the courtyard but it stayed reasonably cool during the day.

We spent two nights at this fabulous crown jewel of hotels in Quebec City. While the Fairmont Gold rate isn't inexpensive, we had a spacious room, private concierge on the floor, fantastic breakfast, and delicious evening appetizers. One concierge in particular, Stephanie, helped us with all sightseeing and hotel billing questions and helped provide a lovely remedy to a bit of an inconvenience with missing items in our room upon arrival. Fairmont consistently provides fantastic service and lovely accommodations throughout their hotel chain. Hopefully, I will be able to someday be able to say I've stayed in them all across Canada.

Room Tip: Be sure to ask specifically upon arrival what can be expected to be included with each room rate/pac...
