“Gets better and better”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 3, 2013

Stayed here in February, after Winter Carnival for one night on our way to La Malbaie. The City was quiet and the hotel was not crowded.

I've stayed at the Chateau several times over the years, and this was the best yet. It went through a bit of a shabby period, but that is obviously in the past. We had a river-view room with a gorgeous view. Our room was dormered with sloping ceilings, which might have bothered some, but we found it charming. We were traveling with 3 kids, and so the arrangement of 2 queen beds in one room and a sofa bed in the other worked out well. Bathroom was small but well-appointed. Beds comfortable, and the room was spacious. If you go, especially with children, don't skip the indoor pool on the 6th floor. It has a nice view of the city, a large hot tub, and a separate small childrens' pool. The locker rooms have steam rooms (great after a cold day of wandering around the City) and showers with shampoo, conditioner and everything else you need.

We used the valet parking at the hotel, which was reasonably priced ($20/night). We called for the car when we checked out, and planned to kill a few minutes in the gift shop, but the car was waiting.

Service was great all around. Friendly front-desk staff, house keeping came for turn-down service and even pulled out the sofa bed. She noticed we had 3 kids, and left extra cookies for them.

I know Quebec City quite well, and while there are a lot of other excellent hotels to choose from, there is something about staying at the iconic Chateau that is extra special. When my husband and I go back alone, we will probably look for a more boutique experience, but with kids, the Chateau is ideal, and having the pool is lots of fun.

It is walking distance to restaurants, shopping, art galleries and beautiful views. We were lucky and it was a balmy 30 degrees (F), and we spent a morning walking the boardwalk from the hotel to the Plains of Abraham and back through the walls.

In the past, I've done the historic hotel tour and recommend it.

This stay exceeded my expectations, and the kids felt like royalty. I highly recommend it.

Room Tip: Spring for the river view.

We arrived there and asked for a room with no feather pillows as I have a very bad allergy. We went the room and removed the pillows and blankets and bedding and settled in for some refreshments from the minibar. In a matter of about 10 minutes the staff arrived, took all the bedding, vacuumed the room and replaced the pillows, bedding and fresh bedspreads. Not just one person but two or three took about 10 minutes to accomplish the change. I was impressed. Not sure why hotels have feather pillows when so many people are allergic but none the less we were impressed.

We stayed one night during the last weekend of the Quebec City carnival at this once grand hotel. While we were upgraded to a larger room because of overbooking this could not make up for the sad and run-down state of the hotel. The room was filled with old furniture, the bathroom was 80's style with peeling wall paper, plastic bath, weak shower etc. Even for the $349/night the breakfast was not included which we found irksome given the price. Front desk staff were polite and helpful. Ideally located for visiting the Citée there appeared to be a serious mismatch between perception and reality given the $'s spent. High time this hotel got a serious makeover.

This is a beautiful hotel and historical site to visit. I always wanted to stay here while I was a child (dreams of a fairy tale castle) and finally did on my 3 year anniversary. It boasts stunning views, classic charm and excellent service.

I enjoyed its location, very central in the old city and right on the water. While on the board walk, it's lovely to just look at the building and enjoy its architectural features.

The bar is one of the best I have been in, As far as the views go! Get a barmaid not the guys who cut us off because they wanted to call it a night, they were rude. Rooms were big but a little worn. Location GREAT!

Room Tip: Get a higher floor over looking the river.

My husband got us a room here as a Christmas gift, we spent 2 nights at the end of January during the winter festival. Our room was amazing, the hotel was amazing, the restaurants were amazing.....there's a theme here! There is not one thing I could complain about. We stayed in a king suite looking over the old city and our view was just breathtaking. We spent our days walking throughout the old city and our nights in the lounge located in the hotel. We ate at on elf the restaurants the first night and ordered room service the second night. When the room service came they took the time to set up a table in our room complete with a linen and wonderful plating; even thought it was just a burger. I would return here year after year, the staff is so accommodating and friendly. This hotel is perfect for a romantic weekend away!

Room Tip: The breakfast buffet is quite expensive so if you can get it as part of a package, do it.

Been at this hotel countless times, first time I write a review. This time I've had two suites booked that was merged into a two-bedroom suite called George VI Suite. We appreciated this upgrade as part of the American Express Platinum FHR and also I'm a Platinum member of FPC. It allowed us to be in the same room as my parents while still having privacy. Service is mostly consistent at this hotel, I'm never really suprised but I'm never disappointed either. The café de la terrace always has very good breakfast & diner buffet. The pool is alright for a City Hotel. They finally made some renovation to the parking garage stairs, they were very scary before.

I've heard they are doing a major overhaul renovation of the property, I can't wait to go back when that's all done.
