“Excellent walking tour of Quebec”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 14, 2013

We were visiting Quebec City and looking for a walking tour. We went to the tourist information centre and made an inquiry. We joined a walking tour led by Marie Legroulx.
Marie was very knowledgable, pleasant, and articulate. The 2 hour tour was a great!
Thank you. Marie for such a fantastic introduction to your amazing city.

Hello,

We want to thank you very much for expressing your appreciation of Marie's work. She was a good teacher so it is no surprise if she is such an interesting tour guide. If you ever come back to Quebec city, you should follow the tour she leads which is based on Louise Penny's book "Bury Your Dead".

“Walking Tours and Country Tour”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 11, 2013

We recently spent several days in Quebec City. On the first day, we took the Food Tour with Robert. What a fun way to first experience this fascinating and historical city. We made several stops on this 2 1/2 hour tour and sampled, chocolate, fudge, maple products, meatballs, cheeses, and apricot and lavender drink, etc. Robert was a wealth of information and certainly the highlight of our tour. The next morning we went on the Country Tour and visited a wonderful cathedral, viewed the falls and stopped for maple butter bread. That afternoon, we took the Grand walking tour with Robert. Lucky us. Walking was the only way to truly see the city and once again Robert made sure we experienced the history through visiting various locales, He was also helpful in recommending restaurants and museums. We would recommend all of these tours, especially if this is your first visit to Quebec City.

“Great Tour”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2013

Before arriving in Quebec City we had pre-booked The Grand Walking Tour (a two-hour English tour from Upper to the Lower Town) with Tours voir Québec. On the day of the tour we went to the Tourist Office and paid for the tour and then met our guide, Marie Legroulx, just across the street. Marie did an excellent job of weaving history with what we were viewing. She had many interesting anecdotal stories to tell about various historical sites, monuments, architecture, etc. These piqued our interest so that once able to get to the Internet we wanted to learn more about things she mentioned. She provided the right mix of walking and commentary. She readily answered questions and was very knowledgeable. We appreciated the pace of the tour without feeling we were rushing from location to location (plus the added bonus of the tour going downhill). All in all, it was an enjoyable introduction to this beautiful city.

“Informative, Comprehensive, Fun”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 3, 2013

I thoroughly enjoyed this 2.5 hour walking tour of Old Quebec. The guide was a teacher, gave good descriptions of history and significance of the sites, and was nice. Although I had extensively independently explored Old Quebec with a guidebook, this tour showed me places I had overlooked. The guide was also adept at blending the new aspects of the city with the old and giving restaurant recommendations.

“Waste of Time”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed November 2, 2013

We don't really enjoy bus tours, so we were excited to learn about a walking tour with one of the locals. What a disappointment. After reading other people's reviews, maybe it was our guide. My husband and I had explored the city the day before and seen quite a bit and we were hoping to see even more. We did not. The guide would walk about 10 minutes to a spot and say things like - there is a great wall mural in that direction; you can visit the harbor in that direction without ever taking us to the actual attraction. The he would procede to try and be a standup comedian for 15 minutes. it was a waste of our time.
We combined this tour with a country side tour. It touted we would go to Montmorency Falls, Ile d'Oleans and St. Anne's Basillica. As it turns out we PAID to get to the top of Montmorency, we went to a fudge "factory" where we could PAY to buy candy and ice cream, a copper shop where we could PAY for a piece of copper work, and a maple butter bakery where we could PAY for a sample. The only thing we didn't have to pay for extra was St. Anne's which could have been an all day trip in it's self. The gift store was already closed when we got there so we couldn't get an audio guide and we had very limited time - 30-45 minutes. The company should be ashamed of bilking people the way they did. Don't take this trip. research and find one that is better.

We are very sorry that the customer didn't appreciate our walking tour and the countryside tour of our supplier. We have to correct a few aspects of this very negative review, though.

First, about the walking tour, there is so much to talk about and present in the old city that none of our guides would walk 10 minutes without addressing his or her group. Then, stopping to talk for 15 minutes doesn't make more sense. Since it is a walking tour, our guides cannot go absolutely everywhere in the old city so, yes, they sometimes have to indicate what else can be seen "over there". The purpose of a walking tour is to inform, entertain and suggest what else can be done after the tour.

Concerning the country side tour of our supplier, we agree that, indeed, everything you see during the 7 stops of this 4 and half hours long tour is not free. Customers pay below 50$ per person for the countryside tour alone and it includes the following (as stated on our website or our flyer): "Then, take time for a bite or two or some sightseeing of your own before enjoying a 4.5-hour leisurely countryside tour on board an air conditioned coach. Highlights of the Countryside Tour include: French ancestral settlements, the Montmorency Falls, the shrine of Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupre and the village of Ste-Petronille on Isle of Orleans. Numerous stops take place along the way including the return to your hotel." Nowhere do we pretend that all the food customers will see during this tour is included, all the contrary, we recommend to have lunch before. This tour is the only way for travelers that do not have their own transportation to go to the Falls, the Shrine of Ste-Anne de Beaupré and a village on Isle d'Orleans so we will keep offering it.

We agree with this customer on one thing: The maple spread at Chez Marie could be included with the tour but, since the country side tour is done by an external supplier, we have very limited influence on it. We will work to have it improved, though.
