“Nice spacious suites with a great lower Quebec City location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 27, 2012

Four couples in our group stayed at Le Port-Royal recently and all were very impressed with our spacious well appointed rooms. Rooms had dishes, glasses and untensils with range and small frig. We didn't use our kitchens because the local quaint restaurants were so inviting ...and really good. Le Port-Royal hotels classical large stone and wood contruction gives you the feeling of being in a castle. There's a nice bar and restaurant connected to the hotel. The bar had live entertainment the night we were there that was quite good. We booked online and got an excellent rate too. Excellent location in lower Quebec City will provide you an excellent launching point for city exploration. Would not hesitate to return to Le Port-Royal.

I arrived quite late after and evening arrival in Quebec City, and check-in was very quick. My first room, 203b, was quite adequate - comfortable queen sized bed, well stocked bathroom and a bay window . . overlooking the gas station next door! Though convenient for picking up supplies, it was quite noisy during the night. I asked that night if there was the possibility of changing to the front of the hotel (as I was staying for another three nights) and was advised to ask again in the morning. This I did, and was invited to look at a room on the first floor, 101, looking outwards to the front of the hotel and towards the Old City. The new room was incredible - a definite upgrade! King sized bed, full kitchen with island bench, microwave and dishwasher, sitting area, large work desk and bathroom. There was plenty of space with a real feel of luxury. The hotel was very conveniently located in the port area, almost across from the Image Mill. It was walkable to both the Lower and Upper Towns, close to plenty of lovely restaurants, antique shops, galleries and boutique shops and the Gare du Palais. The hotel staff were most helpful in offering advice regarding bookings for tours, and especially in the assistance and willingness in changing rooms. My few days in Quebec City were amazing - the city surpassed all my expectations. This was definitely assisted by this superb accommodation at Hotel Port-Royal. Thanks you for such wonderful memories - I will most certainly return.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the front of the hotel - a beautiful view. My room was above one of the bars and I...

Le Port-Royal is well located in lower town Quebec and perfect for visiting vieux Quebec. We had a spacious corner 1 bedroom unit which was a curious mix of antique furniture, granite counters and cheap melamine type cupboards. It had a full kitchen, but not a full compliment of dishes etc...for instance only two glasses! Parking right out front is a bonus for a downtown hotel. The staff was friendly, but our interaction over three days was minimal. Did not eat there. But, their hotel internet service was so slow on both laptop and tablet that I would not return unless I had some assurance of high speed access. Any video clips and multimedia files took forever to download and my stock trading platform was almost impossible to navigate. Great location, parking convenience and unit size made our stay pleasant and we had a wonderful time in vieux Quebec.

We booked a two bedroom suite for our family of five. The suite was a good size with everything you needed for a comfortable stay. The staff were brilliant and very attentive. One of our party got sick on the trip and the hotel arranged a doctor to visit the suite within 20 minutes - amazing! Would definitely stay there again!

Every thing positive posted about this hotel is true! I felt like I was in a story book fairy tale. We arrived by taxi from the airport at 1 a.m. and were greeted with "we've been waiting for you." How lovely! Our room was #208, a perfect corner suite with a view second to none. Although we were only staying a few short hours and had no opportunity to use it, there was a fully equipped kitchen. Also a nice desk and little dining table. We appreciated the newly renovated bathroom, the lovely music playing when we arrived, the lighting, good bedding, mattress, pillows and amazing decorating.

Breakfast was included in our room rate - a tremendous deal. Le 48 was very busy as we had slept in a bit due to our late arrival, and thus cruisers were already disembarking and arriving at the hotel. As they couldnt check in that early they were looking for a place to hang out! No matter, we were in no rush. Breakfast was delish when it finally came and our waiter was doing the best he could.

The hotel is within sight of the cruise port. You can easily walk there with your luggage if the ship is your destination. We would stay here again without hesitation and highly recommend this hotel to others.

Room Tip: 208 was fabulous

My Mother taught me that if I did not have anything nice to say about someone (or something) that I should say nothing at all ...

This was my third time staying here ... (First time was bad, second time was bad, and the third time was the clincher). I gave it an honest try ...

I will not be back.

We had a corner room, room 200, this overlooked the Ecobus stop and gas station but we didn't find it a problem as the double glazing kept all sound out. Might be a problem in summer as it could be very noisy with windows open. The room was very modern and the only item we had to ask for was a drainer for our dishes as there was no inbuilt drainer to the sink. Toiletries were replenished daily. Very good location and an easy walk to the Funiculaire which costs $2 each to take you up inside the city walls - saves the long climb up lots of steps. No supermarket nearby but the gas station next door has a shop for essentials. Lots of places to eat nearby. The washing machine was not working while we were there but the staff were fantastic and arranged to have it all done for us! The staff were fantastic and we found them really helpful. We travelled by train and, although we had a taxi to the hotel, it is within walking distance if you don't have a lot of luggage. The best supermarket and SAQ is just a little further on past the train station, a 15 minute walk from the hotel.

Would have given 5 stars but found the lighting very poor in our apartment. Didn't fancy the menu in the on site restaurant.

Room Tip: Just ask the staff as all the rooms are different.
