“Buzz of activity & noise on a freezing night!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 24, 2013

This small, warm, loud but friendly place was sort of our introduction to this awesome city after a more than 10 years gap. We were not expecting having to line-up outside the door in the ultra-freezing night though. Was definitely a whole, new experience for me. As we made it through the door we took in the scene inside. It was buzzing with people ordering, paying, working in the kitchen, serving, leaving, cleaning, drinking...all in one room! Amazing. The girls were doing little dances as they carried up to 3 plates of yummy poutine in one hand. We moved ahead in line and were seated quicker than one would expect at such a busy restaurant. Our server was a friendly young girl who gladly explained the poutine variations to me in perfect English. Food arrived at the table in about 10 minutes, and we wasted no time before digging into the delicious mess in front of us.

Although we tried to love the food at La Banquise, we both eventually agreed it wasn't the absolute best we ever had. However, the whole experience is something one should not miss when in Montreal. We were thoroughly impressed by the sheer efficiency of the staff and the lively mood of the place as a whole.

“Not the best poutine I have ever had, but definitely the most interesting!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 19, 2013

La Banquise is the sort of place that everyone has to eat at when you visit Montreal, whether it's an after-bar destination to carb-out before bed, or as a great hangover remedy the next day. Great varations to the classic French Canadian poutine. The portions are huge and you will not leave hungry.

“Best Poutine in Montreal”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 15, 2013

Ask anyone in Montreal where you can have the best Poutine and all fingers will point to La Banquise, and they sure are right.

Location
It is located in the glamorous area of the Plateau de Montreal,, where a lot of the restaurants and lounge life of Montreal is located. A very cultural part of the city with narrow streets and lovely homes. Walking the streets of the Plateau you directly feel the need the coziness, and La Banquise is directly round the corner to provide the best atmosphere. It is directly accessible from the street and at walking distance from the Mont Royal metro station.

Menu
Very rich menu of all kinds of Poutines with all kinds of dressing. Whatever comes to mind, the restaurant has it. In addition the menu is also quite rich with burgers, salads and drinks

Service
I really liked the service, the waiters and waitresses are very smiley and know how to take care of you. They understand the menu and would answer any of your questions

It is really a great place and would definitely recommend it to have a taste of the poutine.

“Not the best poutines....”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 15, 2013

Well, they do have the biggest selection of poutines (if you are into that sort of thing) but I don't think it's the best. I understand that as an after bar scene - let's grab something to eat, well, if in the area, this is a place to go.

“Very yummy!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 11, 2013 via mobile

As I am from Montreal, I can tell you that this place has one of the best poutines in town. I've travelled around the world a lot, and I can assure you if you've tasted poutine outside Quebec, you've never tasted a Real poutine, even if you liked it. If you go there on a Friday or Saturday night, it will be PACKED. A lot of people go there after going out, and thus the service will most definitely suck. Most of the poutines are very good, its not cheap, cheap, but not too expensive. Regular size is quite big. There can be a few tourists, especially during summer, but it's generally packed with locals. I always go there when I need a poutine fix ^^. Another good place i'd suggest would be Poutineville.
