“Excellent French Restaurant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 14, 2013

It was very good, from soup to desert not one bad dish. I was a little nervous given the name but it was not too touristy, the service was very good.

“A Trip Back In Time”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 14, 2013

When you walk into Bonaparte it is like seeing the way elegance was done a hundred years ago. The service is top notch and the food was as good as it gets. Dover Sole was light flavorful and not smothered in a rich sauce as so many restaurants are apt to do. Mushroom ravioli was heaven and the foie gras appetizer was smooth and creamy. Service was friendly and efficient. The tab was very reasonable considering the high quality of food, service and ambiance. we are going back this trip. What more can one say!

“Nice dinner in Old Montreal”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 10, 2013 via mobile

We had booked our reservation for 8:30. It was confusing at first as staff walked around us. Finally someone stopped and told us to sit at the bar and wait. We were then brought to our table. It was a lovely start.

Menus arrived and then we waited for our drinks to be taken. My husband bases reviews on how long we wait. He had almost timed out when our waiter appeared again. Our drink and food order was taken. We opted for the table d'hôtel at $34.95.

Wine arrived and it was a terrific choice!

It was delicious and included bread mixture, we chose salad (a little too much balsamic) and sirloin with peppercorn which was delish. For dessert, chocolate mousse and crime caramel.

Coffee with dessert tasted very tired. Too bad we ended our meal on a low.

We would go back ( just wouldn't have the coffee).

“Not as good as it thinks”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 9, 2013

A business is defined by its attention to detail, and coupled with this restaurant being rather questionable value, I cannot score it more than 3 stars. A few points:
1. Service was patchy - we had to ask for the bread
2. A waiter who keeps asking 'everything is great?' is both irritating and highly presumptuous
3. Portions were modest. Two small scallops and a couple of shrimps does not make a starter worthy of some £12 in UK money
4. Dessert seemed to be an afterthought. It came within a couple of minutes of ordering, and my small portion of chocolate cake was accompanied by synthetic 'squirty' cream. Not acceptable

The food was perfectly tasty, but the prices were very high, and did not reflect what the Bonaparte thinks it should be. We were frankly disappointed. You can do better, and spend much less money, in Montreal

Dear Fortysoemthing7,

Thank you for taking the time to write a review on our establishment. Bonaparte restaurant does certainly want the best satisfaction for its customer, and that for the last 29 years. We will improve our way of an efficient service without being presumptuous. However, I must assure you that everything on the dessert plate is fresh and made in house. The coulis, whipped cream etc... are not synthetic.

Truly yours, Martin, Co-Owner
