As a Montrealer, I always bring visitors to this old school deli. Everyone loves it.
If you expect "Spic and Span" cleansiness and world class service, this is not a place for you. If you want a really good smoked meat sandwich with a homemade dill pickle, this is the place to be.
The waiting line can be long. The longer you wait, the better the sandwich.

On the minus side - Since it is such a popular joint, they expect you to pretty much "eat and get out" ... FAST. Never mind lounging around after your meal and talk about the weather with your buddies. Just get out fast and go visit all the bars on that same street.

This is the best smoked meat anywhere. It's still authentically done. But if you're looking for decor and ambience, forget it. You're going, and lining up strictly for the food. They usually seat you with other people, so this is not an intimate "date" setting. However the cholesterol laden meat and fries are the best. Worth the wait -- but if you go mid to late afternoon (2-3:30pm) there is less of a wait.

I've been to Sxhwartz's several times. Each time it left me wanting. Not the best smoked meat in Montreal. The best being Reuben's on Ste. Catherine's.

OK its corned beef. You get in and out tast but its still corned beef. Is that what all the fuss is over?
