“Severely Disappointed”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 27, 2013

Had been here in October 2012, enjoyed it, decided to go back on our latest trip to Montreal, May 20, sad to say, severely disappointed. For starters, the male server seemed rather aloof and arrogant, seemingly indifferent to our needs, which were few. Something as simple as the request for a straw was never fulfilled, never got the opportunity to make a second request, as he never returned until the meal was complete and the check was presented. Never inquired as to whether or not a refill of drinks was needed, or if dessert was desired. Mind you, this was not in the middle of a rush period, it was around 5:00 pm, and the restaurant was nowhere near full. As for the food, it definitely was not as we remembered it on our first trip here in October, 2012. We ordered reuben sandwiches, as we did last time, and was very disappointed. The quantity of the meat was definitely not the same as last time, and nowhere near the representation of pictures I have seen specific to this restaurant. The restaurant was not crowded enough to ascertain if it was just our sandwiches that were deficient, but they definitely were much lighter than in October, just 7 months ago. Anyway, I don't know if our poor service was a result of a poor server with an attitude, or directed to us specifically because we are from the states, but it was enough that we will never return to this establishment and will dissuade others from doing so as well. We had much better luck at the various ethnic restaurants, both on St. Catherines St. and in Chinatown. Better service, great food, excellent service, the exact opposite of our experience at Reubens.

The food was not good, the meat was hard, there was not many customers and the tables are very near each other, you can't sit without ask permision to the other customer in the other table. I was there for the recommendation of TA. Don't going back.

Went to Reuben's with friends and was not disappointed. Service was great. The smoked meat sandwiches were delicious. The sandwiches were stacked high and the meat was deliciously lean. Came with fries and they were not greasy along with the pickle. Not one crumb left on plate! Then we shared the strawberry cheesecake which was extra creamy and satisfying. One footnote....flavoured Martinis could use a little improvement. Overall, would go on a weekly basis if I lived in Montreal.

“We did not get what we wanted!!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 12, 2013

When we were at Reuben's Deli on 888 St. Catherine St., we were told this was the family's main restaurant so we decided to give it a try.
On entering, we were greeted and taken to a booth and told our waiter would be with us soon.
The waiter came, greeted us and asked us if we were ready to order. We said yes and proceeded to order while the waiter was talking to some other waiter going past.
He took the order and we received our order after two other groups who came in after us and placed their orders, with our waiter, after ours . He did not come to tell us our order would be out soon.
The order eventually came and the smoked meat sandwiches were tasty.
He came back to ask us if we wanted dessert. After one of the smoked meat sandwiches, one is pretty full.
Then came the bill and he had charged us for a more expensive wine than my husband ordered. He agreed with my husband what wine was ordered but he would not come down to the price ordered.
Before leaving, I went to the washroom and came upon a terrible experience!
I heard and saw whom I think was the maitre d'hotel (head waiter) tell the evening shift of serving staff if they did not do what he told them to do they would be demoted to a less popular area of servicing.
We did not get good service and a correct bill! Plus I left with an unwanted feeling - "a sick in the pit of your stomach" feeling for the poor treatment to the serving staff coming on the floor so after we left!!
What a horrible way to start a shift or have such a person in authority to work under!!

“Fabulous Food!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2013

Went to Rubens in Montreal for the famous smoked meat sandwiches...
Busy and chaotic atmosphere (expect lines) but WOW the food is soooooooo worth the wait!!! Since it was our first visit we plunged right into the piled high smoked meat, BUT as we saw the salads passing by our table we would have liked to try them too. Another time, we were as full as you can get.
