I try to go to Pégase as often as my student budget allows me - thankfully, I get to go often as it is extremely fairly priced (50$ for a 5-course meal!), and I don't have to break the bank to be able to enjoy a glass of wine since it's BYOB. I've been there on dates, groups of 4, 6 and even 8, and we were always greeted in a friendly, warm but not overbearing manner (I've been with anglophones and francophones, and both get treated the same...which is not always the case elsewhere).
The food is great. No, it's not 5 star gastronomy. It's not a creative layering of 15 improbable flavors into a unique dish. It's traditional, French-style cuisine, so don't go there expecting something you've never tried before. However, they are very good at what they do, and they serve local meats (rabbit, duck, etc.), and the taste pairings in the dishes are spot on. The food always comes out hot of the kitchen and everything is always cooked to perfection.
As a testament to the popularity of this cheery and relaxing restaurant, it is always full. Reservations are a must if you don't want to trek it to the Plateau only to come back empty-handed. On weekends, the two services are at 18h00 and 21h00.
Parking is readily available on the adjacent streets, but plan ahead and bring your favourite bottle of wine as the SAQ (liquor store) down the street closes early.
