“elegance and charm under my chin”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 23, 2011

Have lived in montreal for several decades and have visited l'autre saison in their two previous locations, but the present location on crescent street is in a 19th century home beautifully restored, making it perhaps the most elegant restaurant in montreal. The service and food far surpassed my expectations and the lunch we had just tempted me to try it again for dinner. Amongst the three of us we had two salads and a steak and each of us was blown away by the quality.

“Nice charming romantic french restaurant.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 15, 2011

When you walk in you are struck by the beauty of the restaurant. We were met by the owner Kazim. He is a unique character with a wit that walks a tight rope of charm and arrogance. It was our first time in Montreal and were looking for a romantic taste of France. In every aspect this place delivered! It was a memorable meal. I can see how Kazim can rub people the wrong way but we found him very hospitable and even gave us a tour of the building. The food was the best we have ever had. This restaurant started the perfect romantic weekend we were looking for.

“Fantastic French Cuisine”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 17, 2011

I really enjoyed a dinner here my last night in Montreal. It was just me, but the owner was welcoming and made good suggestions. Their choice of everything from olives and bread to the terrific lamb for the main course was top notch. They are good sales-people who always suggest another addition to your order, but I found I was in good hands. There suggestion for wines and their cheese plate were spot on. Terrific French cuisine experience in the New World.

“Avoid the terrible service & microwaved food!”

My friend and I arrived late in the evening after searching for somewhere to eat for quite some time. The woman who greeted us looked unhappy to have us there & sat us in a very rude way. We asked for water; she proceeded to give us a bottle of water - rather than tap water we expected - we later found out was at a cost of $7.50 though she never told us there would be a charge.
The man who took our order appeared to be the owner (and I believe the woman who sat us to be his co-owner/wife) and was not terribly friendly. Their wine list only had by the bottle, with prices $95 to $200. My friend asked if they had any wine by the glass & he wouldn't tell her what they had, he instead made her request a kind of wine.
My main course request seemed not to be enough, he tried to bully me into having an appetizer also. Then my friend said she wanted an appetizer to start, maybe ordering more later, but he told her she had to place a full order in order for us to be served at all. She then received the appetizer she wanted as an entree at the start of the meal & the salad as her main course.
The food was terrible! My salmon & vegetables were obviously microwaved and the potatoes were from a mix. Her shrimp was not fresh and the caesar salad was drenched in dressing.
Of course, no one bothered to ask us how anything was, so we ended up leaving a one penny tip and skipping the dessert & coffee included with the meal (not that they were trying to push it on us).
Stay away from this place, not worth so much money to be treated so poorly.

“Tasty French style, reasonbly easy on the pocketbook.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2011

Our concierge recommended this restaurant which was along Crescent, a bustling area within easy walking distance of our hotel. The menu was varied, in the French style, and we were impressed with the Table d'hote menu with their prices. The service was good not excellent: Several times (mainly between courses) there were gaps when we didn't see a server for long periods, Other times we no sooner had sipped the water glass than it was refilled. The food? A very tasty and tender lamb shank, steak frites served with a yummy sauce au poivre. The prices would have been qute a bit more had we ordered a l carte.
We (four) unfortunately were seated in the same small room a a larger family group who together conversed at a level that made it difficult for our conversation. (That's just luck of the draw.)
