“Good food, typically Portuguese ambience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2013

Absolutely packed - reservations essential tho you might get a table after 9 pm

Food is very good and the service is top rate - not expensive for this standard

large mark-up on wines

Very crowded and quite noisy but you could be in Lisbon

“expensive and exceptional”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2013

We had a great meal here. We were walking in the neighborhood, did not have a reservation and were seated quickly and treated very well. The meal was exceptional - fish stew, risotto, grilled fish - all perfect. The oysters were fresh and delicious. It was a bit crowded and noisy but not to a point that it was overwhelming. I would certainly go there again while in town.

“Great food but not for those prices!!!! For fish you'd better go somewhere else!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2013

This restaurant came highly recommended, probably based on its reputation for being "fancy and expensive". The food is very good, it will be dishonest to say anything but that; the Calamari grilled as app were delicious, the Baccaloa (Black Cod with mushrooms) and the Halibut were tasty and came with a good side of mashed potatoes and some veggies! But at 44$ and 45$ (52$ for the sea bass) this is way too much and hence the 3 stars I gave... The dessert was also decent and fairly priced at 10$.

Service was professional and courteous. I did not like the fact that they hit you with a 5$ bottle of water upfront without giving you a choice.. so if you end up going, make sure you ask for tap water (if this is what you usually like to drink) and what pissed me off is that he keeps filling the glass and brings another bottle, again without asking you! (he waived the bottle when I pointed this thing up, but I am sure if I did not they would have charged it..

The list of wine and Port is extensive and impressive, but again quite steep.

The restaurant is nicely decorated with a bar on the side, but again this is NOT a decor of a restaurant that charges around 100$/pp at least... This is not the decor or the Ambiance of the American steakhouse or the fancy Miami or NYC restaurant...

So save your money and go have this piece of fish somewhere else for much less and use those 200$ for a dinner at a real fancy place !..

“Pricey but worth it”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 12, 2013

Spent several days in Montreal at a conference. So while was in meetings my wife and daughter were out shopping. While they out they got a recommendation for Ferreira Cafe Trattoria. We made late evening reservations. The place was busy ( it was a Friday night). The serves was excellent and attentive. We started out with the Tuna tartar. Good not great. My wife had the Lamb, perfectly cooked and very flavorful. My daughter had the grilled Salmon also perfectly cooked. I had the Bouillabaisse, full of fish, clams, shrimp and lobster. Probably could have had a touch more seasoning, but I'd order it again as is. We asked the waitress to pick a wine for us, she nailed it. My only regret is that I didn't ask her the vintage. We finished the meal with a nut tart and ice cream. Perfect ending.
