I've had several meals here over this summer and it has yet to disappoint - it's definitely one of th best restaurants I've even had the pleasure of eating at.

“Great staff, food, and atmosphere”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 28, 2013

The food here was simply delicious! Our server was the right amount of attentive, but respectful of our space. The lighting and decor was really neat; sort of industrial (the overhead lighting were exposed bulbs that had large rolls of chicken coop wire around them. It was very cozy when they dimmed the lights as the night went on). The various courses were timed very nicely. The only odd thing was that it took a while before we got our check at the end of the evening. We concluded that it must have been a cultural difference (we are from the states) because as soon as we asked for it, they were right on it, almost as if they were waiting for our queue. As self-proclaimed foodies, my husband and I both thoroughly enjoyed our food and overall experience.

“Fine Cuisine”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 25, 2013

This is a great restaurant in the old port area of Montreal. The dining room is nicely set and the tables are well spaced. The menu was limited but provided good variety. The server did a nice job of pairing wines with the items we selected. The food was extremely well prepared and presented. Overall, a very good meal. Many of the reviews indicated the service was slow - not the case - well timed and the courses were nicely spaced. We actually wished it would have lasted longer. This is not a cheap dining experience but worth a try if you enjoy food and good service.

“Very French and very good”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2013

A stroll down pedestrian-only rue Saint-Paul brought us to the country-inn façade of L'Epicier. The interior was elegant country-French with wooden flooring, wines adorning most walls, and white tablecloths. From the limited menu we chose the chef's seven-course tasting menu and, for the most part, were not disappointed. The selections were magnificently presented, flavorful and, in some cases, a bit daring. The amuse bouche was a miniature chocolate macaroon split and stuffed with goat cheese and chopped black olive. The courses included: cold fresh pea soup poured over a tiny bacon panna cotta; a crisp salad of shaved root vegetables with goat cheese mousse; a small halibut fillet served with corn spaetzle and black trumpet over lobster sauce; a duck terrine topped with a raspberry glaze and served with soft diced rhubarb; a boned, stuffed quail served on an arugula paste; the iffy cheese course included a smear of aged cheddar with diced Granny Smith apples and a pumpernickel crumb topping; and the dessert consisted of thinly sliced strawberries over ground chocolate and a raspberry gelatin stick. The service was exemplary throughout but the ambience was somewhat noisy. Make reservations and enjoy an authentic French culinary experience!

“Really good french restuarant in Old Montreal”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2013

Went with some old friends who are local to Montreal and this is their favorite. Fabulous servcie, extensive wine list and while the food was well prepared, the presentation was magnificant!! Only thint that could have been better was the menu was a bit limited and the ambience while very informal, was a bit noisy.
