“Location, location, location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 25, 2014

There is an art to enjoying a comedy club, and it mostly involves location. If you sit too close, you risk getting heckled by the performer and dealing with the hecklers around you. If you sit too far, you have a hard time seeing, and hearing what the hecklers having to say. Comedyworks packs up pretty quick, so i recommend getting there pretty early, so you can ensure the best location possible. I found the drinks expensive, but worth it, and the service very attentive and friendly. The comedians are always fantastic, and I try to return every time I'm in Montreal, it's my favourite attraction in the city. Absolutely fantastic for a night out with friends, and a great choice if you're looking to do something a little different, but not break the bank.

“Cozy Venue, Crazy Drink Prices”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2013

ComedyWorks was only a 10 minute walk from our hotel, the Novotel, on Mountain Street. The venue where the comedians perform is small but intimate, making for a much better full contact session. Those patrons siting in the front arc of tables were fair game for the host and the comedians.

All three acts were excellent, with headliner Ron Josol a real treat, A Canadian-Filipino who uses great self-deprecating humor.

While the entrance fee for a gig (90 minutes) is only $15, you must buy at least one drink. That`s no problem for me, but ComedyWorks Management has the bright idea of charging $15 for a draft beer and crap ginger ale. Someone should introduce management to the elasticity of demand concept, as articulated in economic theory. I have no problem buying drinks in an establishment; however, charging outrageous prices is a dumb strategy when it`s aimed at the odd freeloader. The people at the club that night were upper middle class - willing to buy booze, but restraining themselves in the midst of misdirected management strategy.

If you go to ComedyWorks, which we intend to do again, avoid their Happy Hour (draft beer is not included and for non-drinkers their pop is crap).

“Tuesday standups”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 25, 2013

Went on tuesdays, for 5$(+Drink price) you get 4-5 acts. At least one of them is funny. If you're lucky, you'll be ROFLing for the entire show. But it's really hit or miss.

If you don't mind spending more, go there on Thursday or Saturday.

“Great comics, lousy service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2013

All the comics were funny and entertaining. The venue was a little seedy, but was to be expected. The price was a reasonable ($15). The drinks were outrageously priced, but I assume that is how they make money. I ordered a Vodka Cranberry, which was very weak and came in a dirty glass. I'm not too surprised because the place was a hole in the wall. The waitress, Sheila was dreadfully rude. I was horrified by her attitude and lack of service. Will not return and will not recommend this place to others. Enter at your risk.

“Best night out in Montreal”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 25, 2013

This place brings fond memories from my university years. Absolutely love it - and you are virtually guaranteed a good night out! It is worth making reservations to get a good seat (although of course you don't want to sit *too* close unless you want to become part of the comedians' sets...). Very relaxed, 'family' environment, and it is great going to the pub downstairs after the show where the comedians often hang out too. Try to catch the On the Spot Players while in town - masters of improv!
