“In the heart of buzzing Plateau Mont Royal.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 27, 2014

Spent 6 nights at this hotel, fantastically located a block from the metro and in the heart of the wonderful Plateau Mont Royal region. Turn left outside the hotel and you have a choice of clubs, boutiques, cafés and restaurants. You can walk to the famous Schwatz's deli and even to the top of Mont Royal Park for a brilliant view of Montreal. Our room was actually a small suite with a dining space and coffee makers supplied. However the way the room was designed meant that we had no natural light in the bed area and needed lights switched on even during the day. The two chairs in the room looked gorgeous but they were more like fancy stools without backs and were not confortable to relax in at all. Also the spacious bathroom needed some more surface space to put toiletries etc. There was a huge artificial plant in the room which could easily be removed to make way for the needed surface space. On the plus side the room looked lovely, very clean with a comfortable bed and good linen. The staff were fabulous, friendly and helpful. You can have your clothes washed at no extra cost and as we were waiting for our taxi on our last morning the manager spontaneously made us two coffees to go..very thoughtful. Jo and Daniel were so helpful with advice and were both very good at their jobs. The Ethiopian restaurant that is part of the hotel was a great experience, delicious food and as a nice touch dessert was offered 'on the house' to hotel guests. I really liked this hotel despite a few suggestions for change. It is value for money in a great location and with only about 9 rooms you get personal attention, with a smile and even a laugh at times. Oh...and don't miss buying a pastry from the fabulous bakery a few doors down from the hotel. You pass it en route to the metro!

Was in Montreal for an evening and scheduled my stay at this property (after searching TA). Very clean and excellent service. Some mentioned stairs (lack of elevator) as a negative but I need to burn some calories. Restaurant downstairs I'd also recommend. First time eating Ethiopian food and wasn't sure what to order. I told the waiter I liked spicy foods and he said he'd bring me a sampling. The food was fantastic but I swear I heard (everyone spoke French but myself) the table next to me order "le porcupine" - made me wonder what type of critters I was eating. Anyways, great property and the employees place a very high value on customer service.

We had a kitchenette and almost every light in the place is on a dimmer. The employees were helpful. The bedding great. This might be a good place for a romantic night. But.

But this is one of those rooms that just has too much shoved into it. (Two different coffee pots? A fake plant that was over 6' tall?) And yet no comfortable chair to read or write a TripAdvisor review in. If it bothers you, the hotel "lobby" is the hostess stand of the restaurant. Like the rooms, that very small space is trying to do too much. Our toilet was broken; we had the lid off and jerked the chain. And construction started at 7 a.m. When I called downstairs at 7:40 they claimed it wasn't their building (it was directly over their restaurant) but the worked stopped ten minutes later.

I wouldn't stay here again, but it has some charm. It just seems more like a three-star property.

My husband and I decided to stay at Hotel Kutuma for our honeymoon based on user crocon's review. Hotel Kutuma is by far the best hotel we have ever stayed in. We stayed in the Room 401 which is the penthouse suite. The staff was extremely nice- particularly John who works at the front desk, he gave us suggestions of places to go around the city. I highly recommend anyone who is considering staying in Montreal to stay at Hotel Kutuma. When you do stay, definitely eat at the restaurant Le Nil Bleu, the food there was excellent! Definitely get the valet parking- it's about $18 a night and is cheaper than any of the parking around. Also visit Rue Prince Arthur which is a block behind the park near the hotel- they have great restaurants and shops to visit within walking distance of the hotel.

Room Tip: Get Room 401- the penthouse suite, it's an experience of a lifetime!

Just returned from 4 nights in Montreal, and the Hotel Kutuma has inspired me to write my first ever review. It was awesome. Rooms were very attractive and very well-designed--our junior suite had a workable kitchen, a coffee table with pull-out seating, a couch, a nice terrace, and a bathroom that was big enough to use as an "office" after my young daughter went to bed. All for the price of a standard room elsewhere. The neighborhood is chock-a-block with restaurants and great for walking, and the subway is 3 minutes away. But the best part was the service--the staff was consistently friendly, helpful with dinner reservations and sightseeing recommendations, as well as with luggage and other logistics. Highly recommended.

Lovely quiet hotel in a fun area. Good service, spacious, clean and comfortable room. Note that there is no elevator. One issue with the room: getting in and out of the large jacuzzi tub to shower (an odd set up) was a bit hazardous, it's a big step. I slipped and slammed my leg onto the side of the tub which left a bruise but could have been worse. Just be careful! Other than that, delightful!

We recently stayed here for 4 days and were very impressed. Not suitable for anyone with mobility issues due to no elevator but for everyone else - definitely value for money. Spacious rooms with mini kitchenette so you can self cater if you want was great. A 4 minute walk to the subway and dozens of restaurants within a 10 minute walk - could not be better placed. The hosts are very friendly and obliging and the housekeeping was of the highest standard.
