“A highlight of our holiday”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 29, 2013

We were met with a very warm welcome on a very wet and miserable day in Montreal and shown to our amazing room that had been made ready for us. The room was very spacious and could be made warm and cosy or light and bright according to your mood. We enjoyed the African themed decor and recommend the hotel for couples. The restaurant was also very good and we had a very enjoyable dining experience. The hotel is also well located.

We just live 200 kilometers away from Montréal and needed a little break. We found this little secret place via TA. Indeed, a lovely place in all aspect of hotel service: superb location to discover Montreal's Plateau cool life; great welcoming by a very attentionated staff; room superbly decorated with a modern eastern africain touch. Try out their Nil Bleu restaurant's cuisne, you will be delighted. In other words: this place needs to stay ....secreté Merci beaucoup

I lived in Montreal for five years but never on the Plateau. This was my first experience doing more than visiting friends and/or hitting bistros or clubs. I had no idea how lovely it could be. The Kutuma opened my eyes. The staff is warm, friendly, helpful - above and beyond anything I anticipated. An example - I lost my umbrella during my trip. The day I checked out was blustery. The staff GAVE me a house umbrella, knowing that I had no way to return it, with their blessing. That is service! The room was charmant, clean as a whistle, chock full of lovely details -- crown molding, a super sexy bathroom, incredible comfortable bed, surprisingly well appointed kitchenette. I will discuss the on-site restaurant in another review, but in case you miss it let me tell you that it, too, was a welcome surprise. Ethiopian food and ambience. All in all, this is a wonderful place to enjoy Montreal. If you run, Parc La Fontaine is nearby. Public transportation is about a block away (Sherbrooke station for the Metro, Bus 24). I will most definitely stay here again.

We were so pleased with Hotel Kutuma that we wouldn't dream of staying anywhere else on our next trip to Montreal, and, wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to our friends. Everyone on staff was friendly and helpful, and the room was great. Since we were there for a week, we especially enjoyed having a well-equipped kitchenette with dining table & 2 chairs. The superb coffee provided by the hotel and a croissant from the bakery a few doors away made for a perfect, relaxing start to each day. The location was also excellent--convenient to the metro (about a block away) and lots of shops and restaurants close by. I loved wandering the streets of the Plateau area to look at its interesting architecture, the beautiful little pocket gardens in front of houses on tree-lined streets, and colorful building murals around every corner. As I said at the beginning, wouldn't want to stay anywhere else!

Room Tip: rooms on the alley are quieter--not much view, but our 2nd floor room had a little balcony with 2 ch...

My girlfriend and I stayed in the Hotel Kutuma for two nights and we both thought it was brilliant. The hotel is located about 3 minutes away from a metro station which is really convenient to get to the old town and everywhere else. The staff were polite and helpful and held our bags when we arrived early. The room itself was really spacious and comfortable, especially the bed which was really nice.

We chose Hotel Kutuma for its reasonable price and great location. It is close to the Metro, as well as many restaurants. There is a convenience store (depanneur) and a bakery (boulangerie) nearby.

We stayed in a junior suite for 3 nights. The room was clean, bed was comfortable and, for smokers, there was a "balcony" (fire escape) with 2 chairs and ashtray for your convenience.

Things to be aware of before booking:
1) There is no elevator. If you have an issue with stairs, I recommend asking for a room on the 2nd floor.
2) For those who dislike food smells, be aware that there is an Ethiopian restaurant downstairs. Sunday night wasn't as strong but it must have been really busy on Friday and Saturday night because the smell permeated throughout the hotel. I felt like I could smell it on the bedding.
3) Valet parking is $15/day. I didn't notice any other overnight/extended parking in the area.

Room Tip: 2nd floor rooms are more convenient as there is no elevator.
