“great hotel and location. staff slacking a bit w/ communication.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2013

My husband and I stayed here for our anniversary weekend. The location is great - west side of Old Montreal so not in the middle of the tourist rush, close to Queen Victoria metro, a bike station one block away, several great bars/restaurants within a couple blocks, etc. The industrial design of the hotel is just my style, though some of the furnishings need to be updated, like the 90s style contemporary sofas in the lobby. The rooms are spacious and comfortable and it was wonderful to be upgraded to a junior suite. I also loved the magazine selection in our room.

My only quibble comes with the communication from the front desk staff. They are certainly very friendly and responded readily to our questions, but I found a few things odd:

One: they asked for a credit card for incidentals, but didn't say they were going to charge a $300 deposit. I found this out today when checking my credit card statement. I even think she said we wouldn't be charged anything. I know this will go away, of course.

Two: I wish they'd told us about the wifi and iPad loaner at checkin. My husband found the tiny paper with the wifi login in our key card envelope on day 3. And we learned about the iPad loaner while looking at the website after our stay. In fact, at one point, we asked to use a computer but were told they didn't have one for us. Strange.

Three: there was no mention of the "media library" or the "fitness center" on their website. It would have been nice to know how to access each.

Without literature explaining these things in the room, it's essential that the front desk staff tell you at check in.

Dear guest,

Thank you for your kind comments. I am sorry to hear that our staff did not communicate important matters such as the ones you mentionned. I want to reassure you that it is not typical of our service levels and I already discussed that with the all team. Your feedback is greatly appreciated. We are looking forward to welcoming you back!

Hotel Gault was lovely - I signed up for iprefer and got an upgrade to a suite on the 5th floor with a terrace, which was very pretty. The room and lobby both had a cool vibe. Bath products are Moulton Brown, lovely. Great location in the Old City... close to everything but away from the hustle and bustle. Lovely.

We just visited Quebec City and Montreal for the first time. When making reservations for Hotel Gault through their web site, I noted that we would be celebrating our 10 year anniversary. Well when we arrived and checked in, they informed us that they were giving us a complementary upgrade from our loft room to an apartment. The space was HUGE and GORGEOUS!!!! A living and dining room, king bed, multiple TVs, a soaking tub and big shower.... absolutely stunning. There was also a lovely letter waiting for us, welcoming us from the manager.

Our entire stay was perfect. The room was very comfortable, very quiet, and the staff helped us make reservations and printed out directions for us to get around town. Finally, room service was wonderful - the Gourmet Crepe for breakfast was delicious.

Thank you Hotel Gault for a fantastic stay.

I was very pleased to have stayed at the Hotel Gault. My wife and I stayed in a top floor room with a large roof terrace. The room was spacious, clean, and the minimalist decor felt calming. Upon arrival, we received a fruit basket and some cookies. When our car was retrieved in the morning, bottles of cold water were waiting for us, without our having to request them. Value for what we paid was exceptional.

Have returned to this fine hotel a second time. The ambience, attention to detail and overall comfort are winning combinations. If you like contemporary design, this is a hotel that meets those expectations. The rooms are ample and sophisticated. My only small criticism is that the lighting in the rooms is too minimalist

The staff are willing to do whatever it takes to make you feel pampered.

Our one-night stay at the Hotel Gault was a delight. Staff greeted us warmly and offered a cup of coffee. The beautifully recreated space, once a textile warehouse, is open and uncluttered. The bed and chairs were very comfortable and the neighborhood was quiet. I highly recommend it.

We decided to try a stay at a boutique hotel in Old Montreal and chose Hotel Gault for our 5 day visit in June. The staff was very friendly and professional and the little extras such as a bottle of ice wine and fresh cookies the first night were a nice treat. The rooms are as advertised, minimal in decor but very funky and chic as we stayed in a junior sweet on the 4th floor with separate tub and shower. The nightly turndown service and use of a complimentary iPad were also appreciated. The hotel is extremely quiet due to its size, location and solid construction.

We tried room service a few times which is predictably expensive but not as pricey as some other hotels we have seen and the food was delicious with large portions. Some choices were not available later in the day as supply for such a small hotel are understandably limited. The king sized bed was extremely comfortable but as one other reviewer mentioned the heating/cooling system does run constantly right above you. The location is great with so many restaurant options within a few steps and its about a 10 minute walk to shopping in the heart of St. Catherine's.
