“Great Getaway”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 15, 2014

We just returned from a four night stay at the Hotel Nelligan in Montreal. The hotel is situated in the Old City. It is a great location once you have the valet park your car for the remainder of your stay. This is a lively and congested area. Everything you need is within walking distance or use the Metro. The hotel is a refurbished factory. The rooms are very nice and modern with a great bathroom with separate bath and shower. The hotel, however, is not handicap accessible. To get to our room we used an elevator and walked a corridor followed by several steps and another corridor. Don't get me wrong it is not a laborious journey, but if you are handicapped forget about it. The personnel at the hotel are superb. They will help you with anything you want, reservations, directions, recommendations, etc.

The one drawback was the breakfast. We got the room with breakfast included. It turned out to be a continental breakfast. It was nice, but, strictly, a cold breakfast, served in the cocktail lounge section of the hotel. It had cold cereal, fresh fruit cocktail and sliced fruit, cold meats, hard boiled eggs, muffins, croissants, toast, bagels, coffee and juice.

The room was very comfortable and the location was perfect. We would definitely stay at the hotel again. As I mentioned before the staff was great.

Hello Carlotta M

Thank you for your kind words and taking the time to share your experience with us. Indeed the disable clientele is in Old Mtl challenged with structures that cannot be modified due to bylaws regarding historical buildings. I am glad to read that despite this inconvenience we were still able to meet your expectation.

Spent 2 nights @ the hotel for a little get-away. The location is excellent, right in the heart of old Montreal - easy access to shops and eateries. Hotel staff were attentive & professional. Room was super clean, nicely decorated with a very comfy bed. Unfortunately, the shower mechanism was somewhat 'finicky' as not really able to adjust the water temp properly. It was either scalding hot, slightly warm or cool. The issue was reported and it was followed up my staff promptly. We were advised to adjust the shower mechanism slowly as it appeared to be working within hotel parameters. I recommended that the temp control valve be checked. Also, it could be time for an entire new shower mechanism? One other recommendation was made via check-out card; hotel should provide disinfectant wipes or spray for gym equipment. On a final note as per previous posts, hotel underground parking is very pricey @ $30.00 per day.

Not exactly a skyscraper of a building, the hotel is prone to street noise, which lasts late into the night.

Not a problem if you are a night owl yourself, and the very pretty rooms are worth it all. It's the only place I stay in Montreal.

Room Tip: A room on a higher floor might make the noise less of a problem, but earplugs might be a better opti...

Dear Creepshow124

Glad that we are the only hotel you choose to stay in Mtl. Next time you visit please let us know, we do provide earplugs to guest upon request but even better we can put you in a room opposite to the street therefore preventing the noise.

Regards

The place was gorgeous, but was more for a person that likes to be fussed over. There were 2 valet guys that would open the door for you every single time you left. As an introvert, I found it annoying. I like to make my exits as discreetly as possible, instead it turned into quite a show. For the price of the hotel, the bathroom could have been more new. Yes, it was clean, but the grout around the tub needed replacing. The valet parking is the only parking they have. You have to give them 10 min if you need something for your car and its very pricey ($30) a night!
When you arrive, park in front of the hotel directly across and you run in and they will put your car in the garage. Of course you have to give them your keys, which I'm not comfortable with. One of the bedside tables is full of alcohol, which was annoying bc I wanted to put my things there and I don't drink much and there was already drinks in the refrigerator. It seem like they want you to drink a lot here.
Pros - Beautiful Hotel room and lobby, Comfortable bed, sheets and pillows, helpful and friendly staff

Cons - Expensive Parking, Too attentive with the valet doors, air conditioning unit makes loud sounds every 20 seconds, dog barking all night, maid obesesed with leaving cards because she wanted to make the bed every single night, drinks on top of the table, not enough places to put suitcases, terasse was too snobby for me, no balcony

Room Tip: Get a room away from the street so you won't have to hear dogs barking all night

Dear girlygirl321

Thank you for the review but I have to tell you that I am a little perplexed by it. The kind of service that we provide is really what guest are looking for in an hotel of our category. I am saddened that it wasn't up to your standards. Please note that we have several hotels in old Montreal, you can contact me directly and I will guide you towards something that reflects more of your taste.

We stay at the Nelligan about 3-4 times a year and I have written a review here before, but our experience the past weekend was so awesome that I just had to share. We were sadly in Montreal for only one night, and had booked the Romance Suite which is our usual choice and a truly lovely room. when we arrived however, we were informed of a complimentary upgrade to the One Bedroom Suite! We had stayed in it once before over the years but not in the summer and therefore could not have the full value of the private terrace. Imagine a 25x40ft terrace of your own on a sunny Montreal day, overlooking the city :) Complete with Gazebo and beautiful seating. We had plans that evening, but cancelled them, just to sit out there, have dinner and a bottle of wine. Enjoyed breakfast out there the next morning as well before we had to leave. The suite itself is most impressive too. A full kitchen, dining room, living room and of course, bedroom and 2 baths. Spectacular. If you ever have the funds (its pricey) and the time, I strongly recommend this indulgence :)

Great location in old town, within walking distance of everything you need to see during a weekend in Montreal, not to mention Notre Dame Cathedral, the subway, and their sister properties that provide access to a spa or a roof-top deck overlooking the park along the river. From the moment we entered the door, the staff treated us like family, and went out of their way to accommodate every request (including great references for restaurants). The clean room and the loft atmosphere provided a great home-base for our weekend. The sidewalk tables in the bar/lounge also provide a nice respite for an afternoon cocktail and people watching. Not to mention the nice atmosphere of the bar for a before or after dinner drink. I've never been treated so nicely in a hotel, and The Nelligan will always be my benchmark for great service.

The Hotel Nelligan starts with a wonderful staff that made booking easy and took care of my restaurant reservation. Arriving at the hotel, on a small side street in the midst of Old Montreal, the check-in was quick and the valet took care of the car. The rooms were wonderful. We had been generously upgraded, which was nice and the facility was truly classic. Our only problem, not the hotel's fault, but the location has a downside. The area is the spot for nightlife action and it was very noisy from the street below through most of the night. But the hotel and the location are worth it. Also the bed was a little soft for my taste but still comfortable.

Dear Airsucker,

Thank you for your comment on this site, unfortunately the neighbourhood can be at times quite noisy as we are at the peak of the season.
