“A Jewel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2013 via mobile

A jewel of a hotel in the heart of Old Montreal. The location is perfect, the facilities wonderful, with newly renovated bathrooms and upscale amenities. Room sevice food was excellent and incredibly prompt. But what puts this hotel over the top is the staff. The Front Desk people and especially the Consierge staff were as friendly, fun and helpful as it's possible to be. You could not ask for a better experience!

One small tip - spring for the extra cost for the higher speed WiFi. The free version is pretty slow.

We stayed for five days to attend the Montreal Jazz Festival and very much enjoyed this hotel. Though it was right on St. Paul Street, which is full of people most times of the day, our room was over the atrium and we slept better than we do at home. Housekeeping was a bit spotty - there wasn't a day when I didn't have to call for something that hadn't been done. But the corrections were always immediate and pleasant.

Room Tip: Book an inside room so you don't have the noise of the street when you want to sleep.

This was our second stay at the Hotel Nelligan. The rooms are charming, particularly if you're on the outside (vs. the courtyard). The staff is extremely helpful (whether in French or English), and the location is central to the best of Montreal.

Room Tip: Rooms that are not on the front of the hotel avoid the noise from the very active and open late bar...

This hotel is one of the nicest hotels we have ever stayed in. The tub in the bathroom is amazing. It is shaped like a triangle so both of us could have a nice relaxing bath. The bath also had lots of jets with many different settings. Our bed was very comfortable. We were there for our anniversary so the hotel staff sent us a gorgeous fruit plate. The terrace bar is one of the nicest places in Montreal. If we come back to Montreal we will stay here again.

Room Tip: We stayed in a junior suite that had an amazing bathroom

The location of this hotel is ideal if you want to stay in Old Montreal. It is a few blocks from the port and close to many restaurant choices. Our room was spacious and very nice. We booked a package that included parking and breakfast. The continental breakfast was very good. We also enjoyed an evening on the 5th floor terrace restaurant/bar. I would avoid rooms near this area as it would probably be noisy. Overall, I would highly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Our room was on the second floor - Rm 226. We were on the street side, but never heard any outside...

It's all been said before but after our visit I had to chime in with some thanks: this is a wonderful small hotel, with superb staff and location. It's just a great place to be--it was the highlight of our recent three night stay in Montreal.

Room Tip: Toward the end of the week activity at the club across the street seemed to pick up; light sleepers...

Hotel Nelligan is a charming hotel in Old Town Montreal. Daniel checked us in upon arrival. He was friendly and helpful especially since our room was not ready plus he could tell we wanted nothing more than to get settled after a long trip. As a result he found another room that was even better. Rooms were well appointed, comfortable and charming with a brick wall. Room rate included breakfast. Even though not the biggest buffet it was truly perfect enough for us and the chocolate croissants were delicious. Melissa, the concierge, was beyond helpful in planning our days in Montreal. Her suggestions and advice were spot on. Did not get to take advantage of the roof top bar due to rain but enjoyed our free drink in the lobby bar. Location is ideal for touring Montreal: able to walk throughout the Old City and close to metro system. Since hotel is in an upbeat, fun area if your room faces front of hotel it can be loud. Overall, hotel was great, staff friendly, and location ideal. I would stay here again in a heartbeat and recommend it to all.

Room Tip: ask for room not near the street
